Is it just me or do rare butterflies spawn more often after the update?

In the past few days I've seen more great purple emperors than I did in the entire first month of owning the game. Paper kite butterflies also seem more common on my island and so do agrias butterflies, though they're still uncommon. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just really lucky RNG for me?

Man, I wish. I've seen pretty low numbers ever since the April update nuked the spawn rates of our beloved peacock butterflies. Ever since, they're pretty rare for me unless they're a blue bottle or tiger butterfly

I haven’t noticed a significant change in the butterfly population, although I wish they were more common. I love making butterfly models, and now that Flick is guaranteed more often I keep wanted to commission pieces.

However, I have noticed that the number of scorpions on my island has jumped up. I now catch at least 1-2 per night, whereas I used to never see them unless I made a scorpion island. It’s meant I have to carry a net everywhere after 7PM.

That's so weird, even since posting the question I got 2 more great purple emperors! I could have sworn they changed something but maybe it is just really good luck?

I just wanna add that the butterfly rates that we saw in the first month were WAY off of what normal bug patterns were in previous games. Like, I loved that my flower canyon gave me 3 peacock butterflies every time I walked through it (also I semi base my rep/oc’s backstory on how many tarantulas were swarming islands) but that wasn’t how bugging worked in City Folk or New Leaf. I feel like they probably should’ve just stuck with the spawn rates of game’s past (while lowering the rates of bugs whose value rose).

however, I have been having luck finding valuable butterflies as of late.

I got this game later on so I never got to experience those original spawn rates. But I think I know how it feels now, I'm totally surprised that others aren't having the same experience. I mean I just caught an agrias and a birdwing! And I caught another agrias half an hour ago, and I used to never see those. I'm starting to think my game is glitched or something lol... I'm so curious to see if anyone else has had the same experience.

Edit: And I just caught another birdwing and another agrias... this is so weird.

I haven't noticed any spawn rate changes personally, but I have noticed that great purple emperor's spawn often by my tulip hybrids (purple, pink, and orange) and sometime near my black hybrids (cosmos and lillies). Not sure if hybrids bring a higher change of rare butterflies, but the purple emperor's definitely seem to spawn in that general area most times.

Otherwise I find various other butterflies just throughout my town randomly.

OHHH ok I thought ir was just me. So they did officially decrease the spawn rate for peacock butterflies. Dang. I was seriously thinking something was wrong with my game.

For this reason I actually feel like rare butterflies spawn less frequently after the update. But even excluding the peacock butterfly, I find that I don't see other rare butterflies such as the emperor butterfly as much as I use to.

If I recall correctly, they decreased their spawn rate by 73%. But, to be fair, they were clearly spawning way, way, way more than they should have been for the bell value they carried, so I actually think it was fair of Nintendo to adjust, even though I appreciated the bells so early on in the game!

I get the rarer spawns fairly often, but I also have 15 million flowers, which probably has more to do with it.

I don't notice that they are more frequent since the update, though.
