I'm really happy for them making an awesome device, but it really doesn't seem like the largest jump since they first made the iphone... and if it is then they really haven't made many improvements in between :-p It does look like the engineering behind it improved... but otherwise it didn't get a huge software overhaul like the video made me think at first ;)

Either way though I would like one.... the pricing would be fine if there wasn't also a really expensive plan tagged onto it... I mean it is 30 extra dollars A MONTH than other phones on AT&T.... I don't have the money to re buy the iphone every year at that pricing, I mean it is more money than the iphone to get the full service for a year... so I can't get one :-(
You don't think that video calling is a huge jump? Even if they just added FaceTime, it would be a huge jump, not only for the iPhone, but for all phones. Video calling is the future of phones, and it all starts with iPhone 4. But Apple didn't stop there. They added the Retina display, multitasking, HD video recording and editing, the great new design, better battery, the A4 chip, and so much more. If that's not a huge leap forward, then I don't know what is.

Also, the data plan has dropped to $15 for 200MB per month, or $25 for 2GB per month. 65% of AT&T iPhone users don't go over 200MB in a month, so if you're one of those 65%, your data plan could only be $15 if you wanted.
Video call has been around for at least 5 years now... no big revolution...
Not on phones, though. And that's where it matters most.

Lets see.... Iphone has internet.... internet already has video chat .... sooo not that big a jump. Just because it is a phone it becomes some huge deal?

I a actually a little annoyed they are calling it facetime.... I wonder if extra fees are gonna get tacked on for it. Regardless though, it isn't new technology, my laptop can do that :-p though I thought the 2 camera thing was a neat idea, you still just need the right software to select which camera is running.

...../Not impressed.

I don't need an entire documentary on the thing. >>;; A commercial is enough.

There are so many better phones.
Name one phone that can do everything that iPhone 4 can do. Oh wait...you can't, 'cause there is no phone that can! iPhone 4 does practically everything other phones can do, plus so much more, and so much better.

First of all, why would you even want a physical keyboard when you have a touch screen? It's so much simpler, and you don't have to deal with those tiny keys. Besides, iOS 4 supports Bluetooth keyboards, if you so desperately need one.
Keyboard zgchghvcnhg bvhbERROR404hfxhxjx Touch screen.

Yes it does come down to personal preference but it would be nice to have both like my cell phone.

Urgh, I hate physical keyboards, they're so fiddley. I've always found the iPhone's touch screen much easier.

Downside is that you have to be on a Wi-Fi network in order to video chat.

this doesn't have enough features to be a huge jump, android's already ahead on this kind of stuff.

Yes, but not only is FaceTime made specifically for calling, but most (if not all, I'm not sure) websites that let you video chat use Flash, which the iPhone doesn't support (and for good reason). And it's extremely simple. There's no set up at all, not website you have to visit. You just call someone! It is a huge deal, because this is a huge leap forward.

And, no, there will be no additional charge for FaceTime. And since it's only available over Wi-Fi, it doesn't take up any data from your data plan (since there's no longer an unlimited data plan from AT&T). And it is new technology. It may not be completely unseen before, but it's never been done like this.

No, Im pretty sure my phones have always had two cameras for the last 5 years.

Outward facing for pictures, inward facing for video calls...

No big revolution...

For 2010, at least. Apple still needs to work with the carriers to get it sorted out. It is something that's never been done before on phones, you know. And it's a good thing that it's Wi-Fi only, anyway. Since AT&T is dropping their unlimited data plan, you're limited to a maximum of 2GB of data per month, and FaceTime would surely use up a large chunk of that. Plus, you're getting a better connection with Wi-Fi than you would get over 3G at the moment. FaceTime will go 3G eventually, but it'll take some time to make it work. The iPhone 4 is so advanced, it goes beyond what's currently capable with 3G.

Um...no, lol. Android may have done some things first, like multitasking, but that doesn't mean it did it right. The reason why it's taken Apple so long to add multitasking is because they were waiting until they found a way to do it right. Other phones that use multitasking waste battery life by having apps running in the background. Apple found a way to do multitasking without draining battery life, thanks in part to their new A4 chip.

Ok.... I think I've given my reasons as to why I don't consider it that big of a leap on the software side of things, and lets face it, just because you call someone to get on video is not a big leap in software.... It just means they auto push a button for you...

The argument I have is that everything they are putting in it has been done before. I am not arguing that it isn't a good product, not by a long shot, but it is pricey to use it right, just because of how much the data transferring costs. But fact remains, that if everything new on it from the last one has been done by a different phone before, or even another device, it is not that huge of a leap in technology. I am hard to impress. To be considered a huge leap in my mind it has to be new, and it has to be completely unique and worthwhile.

Tye, you need to stop being sooooooooo defensive over a brand. I mean you respond to everyone who even slightly criticizes it.... and to be completely honest your arguments eventually end up at you are wrong I am right without any logical reasons.

Someone argued with Tye.
He should respnd with a wall of text.

That soomeone is a mod.
What will Tye do.

Probably feverishly deny what sporge just said, but with more politeness than usual.

I just don't like it when people don't see the facts. Okay, even if you don't think that FaceTime is a huge step forward, you can't just ignore the other features, such as the Retina display, which makes the iPhone 4 have the highest resolution of any mobile device ever. The pixels are so small, they're impossible to distinguish apart to the human eye. Images and text look so smooth that it looks like it's printed in a book, not made up of pixels. Then there's also the ability to record HD video and edit it right on your phone. And the innovative new design of the phone, which uses the stainless steel frame as an antenna, and much more. Plus, the iPhone 4 is now the thinnest smartphone ever. And there's even more. You can't just ignore it all.
