Invited a villager from friend's village to move in, what should I be expecting?

I have been constantly logging in each new day with a fresh character (not my mayor) in order to ensure that I do not get any nasty surprised (villagers move right beside a bridge or on top of my trees). I've been using the villager reset trick to achieve this.

However, I have Bruce from a friend's village to move in today and he agreed. As this is my first time inviting a villager to move in, I'm uncertain what to expect from this.

Should I continue with the villager reset trick at the start of the day? Would this affect my chance of him moving in?

No, it does not affect him moving in. It will only affect where his house plot is set up. You can keep resetting on the day it's expected to show up until you like the spot he has chosen.
