I’m new here and extremely nervous yet excited !

@Romaki
Thanks for taking the time to break things down for me. Your advice is wonderful. You all are really making this learning process very simple I’m really starting to look forward to trading now !

Great! Thank you so much. Also is there a value system when it comes to item for item trades ? Or even items in exchange for bells?
quite often people post their wishlists as well as being open to offers of bells and NMTs, so usually you can get the items they are offering in exchange for something they are looking for as they value the wishlist items quite highly. But other than that, the value can fluctuate so really it's just a case of thinking, "what is the max I would pay for this?" and making that your offer.

The value of items is also something you will pick up on as you go, the more trades you do, and the more time you spend on here just browsing the forums the more you will start to get a general idea what things would go for/what is reasonable to offer and expect in trades. hope this is helpful - i can be a bit all over the place when trying to explain things lol :)

Yep! You can do any or all of those things. As long as everyone is upfront with their expectations and what they can do, you can do trades however you like. There's plenty of people who are fine with touch trading, or waiting until the next day, etc.
This is great to hear! So there’s a good mix of people who have all different types of trading styles. I’m really looking forward to obtaining some of my wish items to really create my dream island and I hope I can help others with theirs in return.
I’m also happy to hear that my Sanrio posters might be in my favor to offer in a touch trade in order to get items too :)

Hi I'm introverted too in rl and from my experience I can say that this place is super welcoming!

a lot of items are catalog tradable, idk if you have seen it yet but there are some people offering cataloging services where you go to their island and pick up & drop tons of sets!

You could make a thread asking for items and offer nook mile tickets or ingame bells as payment if you don't necessarily want to trade items (or if it would just take way too long to order everything for everyone).

If you already have specific items in mind maybe I can help you get them just let me know!

Hello fellow introvert ! Thank you for posting. I seem to really be into the idea of touch trading and possibly having a part of my island be dedicated to storing items untill I have everything I’m looking for lol hopefully that doesn’t make things too complicated for me lol

I do have items already in mind such as
-all the color floor lights (I only have white )
-the pink gumball machine
-the purple “we’re open “ sign
- any of the “cute” themed items in the color pink
- all the color crescent moons and moon items
-seashell DIYs
And my list goes on and on lol but for a general idea I’m definitely after the pink colored items

oh I can get you the pink candy machine and the purple diner neon sign!
i also got some of the other stuff but I can't tt to get it at the moment

also I'm not sure if you know but the crescent moons and moon items are diys too, if you craft one of them you can change the color with a customization kit!

Welcome to TBT. If you're worried about trading on here, there is an online rating system on this site, so hopefully everybody is on their best behavior when trading, cataloging, or selling. So far I've had good experiences in trading. At least in New Leaf. I've only trading once with New Horizons, but it was a great transaction.

Oh really?! Wow! This is exciting. As you already know I’m extremely new to this so what are you looking for in exchange ?
And I didn’t know they were a DIY oops! How do you trade Diys? I’d imagine you have to be lucky to have dupes ? I’d love to have the diy as well. I’d imagine though the materials needed for that are the star fragments or something right

This is great to hear thank you so much and thank you for the kind greeting :) I hope you continue to have a great trading experience

You can have them for free, it's a welcome gift!
Also you can trade diy recipes just by dropping the duplicate card and the other person learning it.
You can get dupes for normal diy recipes from villagers and bottles but those 2 are specific ones - I don't wanna spoil you so only read this if you're ok with a potential spoiler!
I don't know if you've ever met her but Celeste (red owl) gives you the diy recipes for the space themed items. She only gives you diy recipes you haven't already learned so a lot of people won't get any duplicates from her. There are also some people not learning the diys on purpose (they just store the card somewhere) so they can get them again and sell them to others. The diys are pretty expensive to buy but there are some people also offering crafting services where you mostly just have to get the materials and a pay a small fee.
And yes the materials are star fragments and large star fragments!

Oh my goodness you’re so nice thank you so much! My first “trade” :)

and thank you for not wanting to spoil something for me haha. I have met celeste and it didn’t occur to me that she is the one who has those diys!
It’s also smart to not purposely learn a diy so you can get dupes to sell or trade if it’s for an item that you’re not really fond of in the first place. Creative thinking ! This is so great haha

Would it also be better for me to try to trade for all the crescent moon colors and then worry about potentially trading for the diy if I don’t end up eventually getting it myself first?

Hey I don't have much in the way of advice, but I am still rather new here too, and what I can say is you've chosen a good place to ease yourself into trading! I hope you enjoy yourself here as I have!

Welcome to the community!

I'm not sure if people have mentioned it yet, but since you are interested in trading on here:
A few terms you will see a lot: NMT is Nook Miles Tickets, IGB is in game bells, and TBT/BTB is the "bells" forum currency. I lot if people take the forum currency seriously with wanting lots and "collectibles" (the lil icons you see by some peoples posting info). If you aren't really for that then those are a good resource to trade with others for in game stuff you want... and you get them just by being active on the forums!
Next is... you are new... you have no rating... so try not to get offended if anyone wishes not to trade or work with you (ESPECIALLY when it comes to villagers) due to it. We all start somewhere, but some people (for good reason) are cautions of newer accounts. New Horizons has got a lot of new people into the franchise, and not all of them can be trusted sadly.

I recommend dipping your toes in the Airport Section to get a feel for our online community. If you do happen to visit someone for anything, be sure to give them a feedback. They will be more likely to rate you as well that way. =3

Welcome! I’m shy and introverted as well, but trading is easy here.
Love your avatar :) ah this is good to know. I’m really looking forward to trading. Maybe the island of my dreams isn’t too far away after all haha

I actually wasn’t aware of any of that so thank you explaining that to me :) I actually don’t have any interest in the TBT but I can see why people do :) that’s like the icons next to your name right ? The little slices of cakes and things?
And I totally understand that I’m new here and people can be wary. Id be too if I were them. Bts you give feedback how and when ? Like if a trade goes well with someone or something ?

sorry for the typos

You don't have to specifically trade for all the different colors. Once you get one of the items, you can customize the color yourself.

The Celeste DIYs are pretty sought-after, so they're on the pricier side of things; I'm not familiar with their pricing, but you can just use the forum's Search function to find past listings. I'd say that if you want a bunch of the Crescent-Moon Chairs, it's probably simpler to just get the DIY itself, but that's just me.

I'd also recommend using The Airport/Dodo Business Class sections of the forum to find folks with Celeste who are opening their town for visitors! That's also a thing people can do. Basically, folks with Celeste will host visitors who then can talk to Celeste to get one DIY per day. Some people won't require payment for the service, others will, but it's good to leave a tip anyway if you can.

Otherwise, do you already have the Star Fragments and Large Star Fragments needed to craft the items? If so, I think the simplest thing to do is ask someone else with the DIY to craft the items for you! Some people offer a tip in Bells/NMT/etc. for crafters, but a lot of crafters will just take the materials to make the items and not ask anything else.

Wow! This really is such a cool concept. People are so creative with this whole trading thing. Thank you for explaining that to me. I agree with you , I think that obtaining the diy for myself would be best so i can also craft it myself as well. I don’t have the materials yet I’m missing the large star fragment but this is so helpful. Thank you again :)
