I’m curious...

I think such a key part of this game is the ability to gift villagers anything so I love picking items that would look nice on them and they would love!
If I was getting a villager from somebody, I don’t mind what items they’ve given the villager if it looks nice :) also, my intention when playing isn’t how much currency a villager will get me because that makes me feel weird, it’s how much I love the game and my villagers.

I'm gifting my villagers items that I think they'd want to have or would make sense for their character. For example, I'll give Merengue a cute dress or Raymond a nice suit jacket, Bones a nice comfy sweater/shirt, etc. I try to give them gifts that are in their lane. I know that probably makes them worth a bit less in the long run, but I'd rather just make them happy in the short term! :)

As a side note, I'd probably never say no to any villager that has been gifted. Once you start giving them stuff too who cares that they wear an ugly dress a few times! I think it's cute! 😂

Yes, i love gifting them clothes and furniture that i think work for them, and i love seeing them wear/use said items. It makes me feel happy and as if these villagers are "mine" if that makes sense. I cant give my villagers away so i do give gifts to the ones i wont keep, but now that i read that friendship might alter the chances of who moves out, i might stop doing it.

I like giving them clothes and stuff for their house that fits them. I think the game is more fun that way. Like others have said, it makes your villagers feel more personal too.

It also seems like certain personalities respond better to clothes/furniture gifts than fruit. The 'normal' and 'peppy' reactions to getting fruit are kind of plain, but I've noticed they do the joy emote for other gifts.

I prefer to give my villagers away for free rather than sell them and would let people know they were gifted beforehand just to make sure they didn't mind.

I think gifting villagers is part of the fun of the game. I generally gift them clothing when I like their houses and don't want to mess them up. But some villagers like Pietro are very hard to gift lol so he's pretty much original, just because his aesthetic is very unique. But Rex on the other hand will look good with pretty much anything I give him, so he has a looot of clothing! It's fun to see they choose what they'll wear for the day

I love gifting my perma villagers clothing items that they can wear and I feel so happy seeing them wear it 😭 ❤ I gave Dom a white baseball shirt and he wears it constantly. He looks super adorbs in it<3 I also gave him a clown nose LOL because I wanted him to be a "Pietro at home" but he didn't like it all and displayed it in his house for weeks XD

I also gifted my old Stiches (starting 5 villagers) a bright colored sunglasses to wear because I thought it would suit his bright colors and he wore it all the time yay~~~He was like a cute, cool looking bear which I loved. Then when I let him go and got a brand new Stiches, I gave him the same sunnies but he did not like it at all! This broke my heart so much 😫 He put it on display in his house instead ;-; I was honestly shocked since I thought this new Stiches would have the same preferences as my original Stiches. Has anyone else experienced this?
*on a random note* I have seen a few comments talking about what color villagers like and stuff, where can I find this info so I can choose better gifts for my villagers? I want to spoil them with their favorite items lololol 😇

Ever since Soleil put a shirt I gave her in her nice house, I've been hesitant to gift anyone anything else. She has specific imperial furniture so now it looks so out of place.

I gave Ruby the red and black ruffled dress that looks amazing on her. I'll probably work on her furniture as well simply because I hate her house decorations. Lucky got a mummy outfit because I have a sense of humor.

The only regret I have is gifting early villagers fish and bugs. What an absolute mess. I wish I could do what I used to in New Leaf and just buy these back from them during visit.
I gave a few of them clothing, but I also had errands run after two would have a fight and they tend to gift clothing to each other. I usually tell them to wear them, though I did tell Marshal not to try on stuff once.
I feel like if you are keeping them around/find something really nice for them to wear there's no point holding back.

Oh i give my villagers gifts all the time! I gave Bianca and Merengue a wreath for their doors which I plan to do with all my villagers, I gave Frobert some exercise equipment and a bed, and I gave Rolf a better bed then a sleeping bag.

Oh and a note! Villagers will only replace two items in their houses at least I think I have that right? I gave Rolf a bunch of stuff and he just kept replacing what I gave him previously. And when I gave Frobert two items and then when I gave him a bed he replaced one of the items I gave him.

I definitely give them clothing! I use this to pick outfits I know they'll love, and make sure to choose things I think'll look good on them. I also give them one piece of furniture as a housewarming gift when they move in- but I make sure it matches their house. If/when I try and trade/sell/rehome them, I'll always let people know. But I'm not concerned with having them being "worth" a lot- I want to enjoy them as neighbors while I have them! I don't give bugs/fish much, though, since I don't like their houses looking like mini-museums 😝

Though lately I've been gifting exotic fruit, since I heard it's a good way to get pictures, and it doesn't seem to affect their houses at all ☺

Oh, yes, and definitely door decor! I gave Fauna a twig wreath and it's SUPER cute~ Frankly, I don't have enough characters to enjoy the wide variety of adorable door decorations, so I was THRILLED to find my animal neighbors would use them!

I would recommend having them try on stuff at Harv's Island first as not everything on their preference list looks good on them, and certain outfits even change when the villagers wear them (for example, the suspenders outfit becomes a skirt when the villagers wear it)

I've always given my villagers whatever they want. I've yet to sell any of mine, and I probably won't now that I'm pretty happy with what I have in terms of currency and resources - also none of them are valuable enough to sell lol.

But I have changed a little in my preferences since NH. Don't know if it's the graphics or what, but now I really would like my permanent villagers and their houses to at least look good. So I go to Harv's and try on clothing with all my new villagers now, and for my starters I've been brainstorming furniture to class up their generic interiors. It's quite fun, makes me feel like a designer.

And it's annoying when they start displaying clothing in their house, especially when they're like Rodney and have a ton of 1x1 furniture that can get consumed by that clothing. So I have had to start regifting him a few things now. But I'm not afraid to use unoriginal furniture if the end result looks just as good.

I give gifts to my villagers because making them happy is more important to me than their market value as I only ever void or give away villagers. Also, I like it when villagers put things up around their homes because as meggiewes said, it makes them feel more alive and, I think, individual.

As for clothes, my favorite game-within-a-game is Harv's Island, and there you can dress your villagers and preview what certain outfits and accessories will look like on them. So much fun!

I like giving my neighbors stuff! I never worry about originality because I like giving away villagers rather than selling them. It just doesn't feel right for me to profit from selling an animal person to someone. I'd rather like to think of it like I'm giving a suggestion to my villager of where they can move to next to continue their journey. Plus, most people in giveaways aren't picky about how original they are. So it works out! haha

Wow!!! Thank you!! This is super helpful! And thank you for letting me know about certain clothes changing forms :giggle:

I gift all my villagers carefully selected clothes that match their aesthetic and favorite style and colors. To make sure they look good in them, I try it on them first at Harv's Island! This is something I really enjoy doing to the characters I love. I now have all my dreamies and they all have their own custom wardrobe, but before when I had villagers I knew would be moving out, I wasn't motivated to give them clothes (so I didn't). I don't really give them furniture items because I like the way their house looks, and I don't wanna mess up their vibe. Their house is their place ya know. But sometimes if I see something really cool that I think they will like I'll give it to them! And of course I'll give them something special for their birthdays

I only give clothing to villagers I plan on keeping, so far Diana is the one who has been gifted the most items .-. followed by Zell, Chops and Cyd. I always give them a "wardrobe/closet" item that matches their house decor (in case they don't have one already). I gave Diana a white Rattan closet and Chops an Antique wardrobe, that way I can go back and see what I've given them! I try not to gift them any items or clothing if I'm not planning on keeping them.

i personally don’t gift them clothing in fear of getting something that looks ugly on them but i’m not against giving them furniture or bugs/fish if they specifically ask for it. i’ve never been too obsessed with originality even if i plan on selling the villager at some point ;w;
Try going to Harve's island, that's what I do before giving them any items!

I will only ever give them fruit.

Not that you could ruin their interiors as every one looks the same.

Log furniture.
