Anyone else?

I'm really tired of typing every sentence on that balloon which only supports 25~30 characters each. Why couldn't Nintendo implement a microphone function? The 3DS has one; with the megaphone you can shout villagers' names, so why can't we talk to each other through the mic? Other games such as Pokemon X/Y has a microphone function and I was really baffled when I heard my friend talking through the game's interface. This single player game has a mic function whereas the game which puts more emphasis on communication doesn't.
As I was watching the press conference at GDC 2014 for the development of Animal Crossing: New Leaf on GDC's own website, the developers mentioned that the core of any Animal Crossing game is a communication tool to the environment and people. So why does this communication tool doesn't have the necessary microphone function to it?

I must say that, throughout the years, they did a good job on communication whatsoever, having feedback from their fans and realising them onto the new AC games. Implementing a chat system to chat with people that aren't in your town, having an island where you can meet strangers from all over the world and the Streetpass function where you can see other people's houses were great additions to Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

The technology is there! Pls Nintendo!

edit: Also, the chat we got isn't flawless. There is no history log of the chat, so you got to keep your eyes on the screen if you want to read his chat or you need to talk through the Best Friend Chat (which makes chatting more annoying). Also, when you enter or leave a building, there is a chance the other person talks, but you cannot read the sentence, because your screen is black, which bugs me as well..

I kinda like having to type everything, but I think mic chat would be really cool for chatting with people on your best friends list :D

I don't. Apart from the inevitable hordes of angry twelve-year-olds telling you they [nope] your mother last night which are found on any game with mic fuctions, I have hearing issues and voice chat is always my bane. At least I'm free from the scourge in Animal Crossing. Giving us (at least) double the typing space in the balloon would have made ACNL a better experience though.

even if there was one, I wouldn't use it lol
I never turn on game chat in pokemon x either because I really don't want to actually TALK to random strangers...

Thanks for your input and concerns.
I think your experience with an ingame built microphone function was a very toxic and hazardous one. Maybe you've been playing alot of First Person Shooters?
Either way, I don't think you will face alot of those squeeky voices, swearing and wanting to have intercourse with any of your family members, because I believe that the Animal Crossing community is far more friendlier community than any game I've ever played.

I have a video commenting about voice chat:

This is a popular League of Legends streamer called SivHD (or his real name: Robbert van Eijndhoven) and his attitude towards voice chat is different. He says that because of anonimity people will swear and flame others. If you type in the words, it will look harsh, and it does. If you implement a voice chat, that wall of anonimity will break, because your voice is a personal thing. People aren't tend to swearing if they are being recognized. Games like Call of Duty are fast-paced going-in-and-going-out experiences. You can shout all you want, then leaving the server to join another server and swear to everyone again, and the cycle continues. And that's where you have Animal Crossing: a slow-paced game with alot of possibilities to shutdown the 'toxic player'. You can kick him out of your town, or you could leave his town if you want and never come back.

Also, a MUTE BUTTON could work as well, if you really don't like underaged children. ;)

edit: oh, didn't read the hearing issues part well. Sorry, this post is garbage :<

I see that the community does not want a voice chat? Last bump and I'll let it die..

Omg, yes, it seems so stupid not have to included one since Pokemon X/Y has that stupid Pokechat thing or whatever it's called. I hate typing in that stupid word bubble without even a proper keyboard.

personally i dont like the idea of mic chats because it feels weird talking to other random people on our games o.O
i have the chat feature disabled on my pokemon x and y games because i trade and battle with people i dont know irl (only one person i have battled with before ive gotten to know (not irl though) and even then i still wouldnt use voice chat lol) and i dont know anyone who has been to my town (i met them all on the island and by visiting their friend's towns) except for one person (again i dont know that one person irl) and it would just feel weird talking to them
especially since there's such a big age difference in my friends okay one of them is like 19 and another one is like 11 O.O

no. i'm shy and have slight anxiety when it comes to new people so i'm pretty sure i would get too nervous to trade with people if i had to use voice chat and i probably would never trade. maybe if they had an option to turn it on and off that would be fine. club tortimer would be even more of a mess though...

Yeah that's why a while back in the summer a friend made us a chat room on the computer/phone or whatever device so we could chat : D

I'd totally be in favor of a voice chat. City Folk had it but I never got to use it because a ridiculous accessory was required. The 3DS mic is just begging to be used this way.

I would have loved voice chat. It sucks having to type things when I'm playing with my friends. It would have been nice if it was something that both people should turn on for it to work, and you could turn it off for someone you're trading with or playing with someone you don't know.

Voice chat seems like a good idea, but only when visiting towns. I dont want to go to CT and some kid yelling at me on the mic telling me to give them bells or to give my friend code. It will be a mess and I guess it will be a little more safer since a lot of kids play the game.

I wouldn't mind a Nintendo mobile app that lets you connect through DS and THEN talk to it.. Just let me talk with people, it's much easier that way. ーー

I would like the option. I'm painfully shy and scare easily, but if I feel comfortable I would LOVE to talk. Typing is awful, and even tho I am a great and fast typist, the DS keyboard is off on my unit and the constant errors make it nearly impossible to even have the briefest chat about anything.

I prefer the text functionality, simply because I don't really like talking to strangers. However, the additional functionality of a microphone would have been nice for those who wanted it. Personally, I'm quite surprised it isn't in the game considering it was in the Wii version and that you can use the mic in single player with the MegaPhone.

i think it should only be allowed for BFFs
i could see me using it with my best friend when we play but thats it
