i feel guilty that new leaf is my first game

NL is my first game too! i've never felt like a fake fan, but i do feel kinda...out of the loop from not having played any of the previous games. not enough to actually get them though. i think they'd be so boring because NL was my first one.

Don't feel bad! I bet a lot of people got introduced to ac through nl. I'm mostly out of loop due to my lack of interest in ac up to now. I still check out my old town in ww on my lite when I get the chance here and there, but I have barely ANYTHING in it. XD

Don't feel guily! :> as long as you enjoy it, that's what counts! I tried playing the GC version but it made me have motion-sickness :P for a lot of people, that is their favorite, but I just couldn't play it! I still consider myself a super-fan :>

It seems contradictory that people get into this 'you can't be a real fan of ____ unless you liked it before anyone knew it existed' mentality. I think the real fans are the ones who really like something for what it is and not because they claim "first" like there's some kind of hipster contest for everything ever. It's like posting first on a comment section of a youtube video without watching the video, being early to a form of entertainment is not an accomplishment if you ignore the substance.

Shame on you! LOL! Listen, I bought the first game WAYYY back when it first came out and have played AC, in various incarnations, nearly every day since. And I am no more a fan than you are. When you pick up an AC game and fall in love, you become a instant member of the family :-) Welcome to the family, sweetie!

I'd never heard of Animal Crossing until I found New Leaf. I don't feel like a fake fan you gotta start somewhere right! ;)

And hey, for some of us it's not even possible for us to have played every single game right as they came out! When the first Animal Crossing game was released, I was a baby! That doesn't make me less of a fan. So don't feel bad. c:

Whaaaat, This subject or idea is crazy. Not at all something to feel guilty about.

HOWEVER- I'd recommend you play a old AC game just for fun. I've been running my ACNL town as Mayor since release day over two years ago now. A couple months back, I was thinking I'd buy a second cartridge so I can experience a new town without having to delete my beloved NL town. What I did instead- was load up and reset my old town on the Gamecube that I hadn't touched in over a decade. It's been pretty fun playing it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that NL does, and nobody is going to see this town but me or maybe a visiting friend. But it's a fine pastime to not take seriously.

don't feel bad!! I've only played city folk before new leaf, and then I only played during the summers so I was quite the noob. I also didn't even get new leaf until earlier this year, but honestly I don't feel quilty. The only thing I regret is that I didn't buy it sooner because it's such a nice game, but I don't feel even slightly bad about being "new" to the game or the series. (since I haven't played more than two games lmao)

i mean, i always act like i really love animal crossing, and i do, but i feel like a fake fan because new leaf is my first game. i want to get wild world eventually, just so i can at least say new leaf isn't the oldest game i've played.

this happens a lot, and it really just adds up to me feeling guilty for being new and young.

i hate that new leaf is my first game. i hate being a fake fan. am i the only one?

Don't feel bad about it being your first game,I've only played one other and I prefer new leaf hands down. All that matters is that you like playing.

Whoa there is nothing wrong with it! I played a bit of Wild World but at the time is was too young to understand english (since i am dutch). 2 years later i got Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City and i did not understand much of that either. However i did understand english at the time New Leaf was released for the Nintendo 3DS, so i actually started playing since New Leaf too!

NL was my first AC game too ;_____; But I'm so lucky to be in such a great community with all the fans-- <33

Nah don't worry about it, I felt the same - my first AC game was Wild World, but I always felt fake for never having had the gamecube version :')

Why? I've had Wild World, City Folk, New Leaf and Happy Home Designer but everyone talks about GC but I don't have it, it's no different :P

no no no no dear, please don't feel inferior because this is your first of the series!
the game cube version was my first game back in 2002, but i never played any of the other games! no wild world no wii games, just went straight for GameCube to 3DS ACNL. :') doesn't make me any less of a fan. but if you feel that bothered by it, maybe try playing the other games as well?

In my opinion, it doesn't matter how long you've liked something to be considered a "true fan" or whatever. As others have said, it just matters that you actually like it. I started playing when the Gamecube game came out (and even tried the N64 Japanese version but it was hard because I don't know the language that well haha) but I can tell you that I have been in your shoes for the Fire Emblem series. I only started playing Awakening, the most recent version (although it soon won't be), so when people talk about the old games and characters I feel like a fake fan because I only know and like Awakening at this point. It may feel like it, but you absolutely don't have to like everything in the series right from the very beginning in order to be a "true/real fan", which is usually just a label used by snobby fans of series who like to brag about how they were supposedly the first ones to like it.

Animal crossing on game cube was my first AC game, played all the others following and I even plan getting happy home designer. You're not a fake fan, we all started somewhere. Yours just happened to be new leaf, and that's pretty alright :) no need to worry. It's about how much you genuinely love the game, not whether you played them all or not.
