Ty! I'm about to spend some time moving some of PWP's around - the fountain in the SW corner and the bamboo zen area in the SE corner are going to get flipped. I think it'll work better that way. The memorial to Tobby was for my IRL kitty who passed away. I figured Animal Crossing was a good place for her memory to live on. It was one of the first patterns I made and I'm actually pretty proud of the shading. It took forever! (A graphic artist I'm not.) But yeah, my rocks and ponds aren't in great places and my shrubbery developed because I got sick of digging holes to brace myself when banging rocks. Planting bushes to anchor me actually started my pathways and landscaping.
Aw, sweet homage to Toby! My town name is for my wiener dog (TubeeLuLu)! I did the same thing with shrubs for rock banging LOL Works great!

I don't like the split beach - makes it harder to fish. It's nice that there's only one pond but it sucks that it's right between retail & town hall. I also don't like that retail is so far away from the beach - makes it inconvenient for selling fish & beetles from the island.

I guess it just goes to show that not everyone agrees on what makes a good map. It's all a matter of preference!

So I was lurking last night and came upon a thread that had a section of their post talking about perfect town layouts. I thought everyone just went with what maps they were given, so this is news to me. I googled what makes a town layout the best and did my research, so I think I've gotten the gist of it.

What I learned makes a good town is:
  • Number of rocks and their placement
  • Vertical ramp
  • Re-Tail being close to the beach
  • Town hall placement
  • Centralized plaza
  • Train station + town hall colours
  • Shape of grass
  • 1-2 ponds
  • How much space the river takes up and if it goes north to south
  • South facing waterfall
  • Eastern or western beach
  • What native fruit you want

I didn't know these were things. If there's more feel free to let me know.

:c All of this makes me want to reset so badly and get a better town. I have 9 rocks (in annoying places), 3 ponds, horizontal ramp, Re-Tail placement near train station, brown colour town hall + train station, and east facing waterfall. Now I feel like my town is really ugly and it's bugging me. I know it's all personal preference but I just went with what I was given and right now I'm not liking what I went with.
I wanted to dream your town, but couldn't find your DC .. I am sure it is lovely! I do really like the name you chose, and Mayor Sweety! What could be nicer!? ♥ ♥ ♥

I really like Poliwag0's map but I agree about the split beach ... The Realm is pretty much identical to my town layout except town square. My paths are different though.

Thank you, all of you. ;__; I am too easily influenced by people. You're all right, it's MY town, I play in it, so I'll do whatever I want. I don't want to start over and go through a bunch of resetting only to never find anything that doesn't appeal to me. What I have now is appealing to me cause I've worked so hard to make what I was given into a beautiful town with all my favourite villagers. I must not give up on it! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

I guess I'm kind of obsessing over it because I wanted to have a beautiful town and dream town that I could present to people.

When judging a dream town people rarely take into account the actual layout of the town, it's much more about landscaping. It's what you do with the town that's important, not what shape your river is or how many ponds you have or what colour your train station is etc etc. I have no idea what the layouts of my favourite dream towns are, that's not what I remember from them.

I wouldn't listen to any of that crap, I've realized you can't
listen to other people's opinions about town layout or you'll
never be happy. You'll end up looking for days or weeks even.
If the town you're currently in works then make it work :3

I'm resetting and I can't wait to pick out my perfect town layout. I didn't know there was a selection when I first got the game so I just went with the first one! It's awful :'(

Please remember that it is your town, and if you like your town, there is 0 reason to destroy it just because it doesn't fit the 'standards' of other some people's preferences.

I have an OK town when comparing them to those standards, but I chose my map because I liked my map, and by my standards, it's perfect. I liked how the grass looked and where everything went, even though my waterfall isn't south and my town plaza isn't centralized and my river probably cuts off too low and etc etc etc.

If everybody chose a town because they wanted them to look like how everyone else wants them to, then no towns would look unique.

I bet your town is awesome just the way it is.
But frankly, I think that everybody has at least one rock in their town they really hate. If someone reset their town because of a couple of rocks, that's silly.

I used to fuss over centralized town plaza, 1 pond, blue train station, red town hall, apples as town fruit, a smooth river, vertical ramp that aligns with the dock, and good starting villagers.

But I've had towns like that & I reset them every time. Right now I have a map with a river that takes up probably half the town and I am okay with that because I like the way it looks. The buildings are in weird spots, but that's okay because they work together for me. I like this town quite a bit, but I do miss the centralized plaza! I think it makes everything more focused on the plaza, which is just about the most important location in the game to me.

Not that I would reset now, I don't think. If you're happy with what you have then do not reset!

Matter of personal preference. I actually hate that town map, but if you like it then you should get one like that.

So just because some people on the internet think they can tell others what a perfect town is, you're gonna just all of a sudden hate your town? That's not right. When you're looking through maps, pick what you want. How does the number of ponds determine if your town is good or not. If you like ponds, pick one with three. Same with rocks. And the direction the dang waterfall faces?! That's just crazy. My point is, pick what you like, and never let people you don't even know make you change your thoughts like that.

I like having my plaza + town hall either near each other, but mainly having them both on the top have of the map!!
My river is right in the middle and just goes straight, so it's kinda like a barrier between the entrance and official part of the town.
South of the river is where I'm trying to get all my villagers to move into haha.

The only thing I don't like is when the plaza/town hall/Re-tail is in the way of stuff, or if the river is all whacky and gets in the way of possible landscaping lmao
(or when there's too many rocks/ ponds, they just get in the way)

But tbh!! it's all preference!! I just like being able to work with the space I have!!
