what is the spawn rate of these? it's only the second one ive seen?

They're super rare, with a low spawn rate... But, I think more importantly- they're super sensitive. From my experience, you can EASILY scare them off before seeing them. Also, depending on the lighting, they may not LOOK like Golden Stags (and instead resemble cheaper stags, like Miyama ones) so you may deliberately scare them off thinking they're worthless. I've caught a few, but they are a PAIN to find.

Yeah I crept up on it the first time (thinking it was a rainbow stag) and it got scared off and i was only a few feet away from it... (well, animal crossing feet xD) And the next time i saw it i was like "ohh rainbow stag yee yee" And was super careful, made sure to pause whenever the stag stopped moving, and i was lucky enough to get it...and found out it was a golden one and i was like "aren't those worth like 15k??!!" xD

. It has been awhile since I found any and I was trying to remember which stag it resembled since I remember I first caught one expecting it to be a different one. It's not hard to see the differences like this, of course, but in the tinier versions you see on trees... yah, easy to mix up. Especially because the Golden Stag is less golden then ever before!

Same here; I had trouble finding the saw stag at one point and then when I was looking for a different one, I got them all the time.I didn't realize that both the Miyama and Saw were in this game until I was trying to collect Miyama ones for Flick, and I got a Saw insteadIt’s okay
Honestly, there are a ridiculous amount of stags in this game, lol. But I've heard big beetles like this are super popular in Japan, so maybe that's why? Anyway, I never pass up the chance to learn about new animals

I used to get a ton of stags in new leaf on the little island but I have yet to catch a single golden one in new horizons

different islands have different rates, I usually see 2-3 on my island per day. they are very sensitive though, have missed out on 2-3 of them

Pretty rare congrats. As a tip, go to an island tour and destroy everything but trees and you will find lots of beetles.
For me the impossible one was the cicada shell 12 hours hunting it.

Congrats! You got it before it is gone! A week ago, I was on a mission to catch one for one of our accounts because it will leave after August, so I planted a lot of palm trees on our island, even put sand pavement on cliffs to make them grow, and lucky enough to caught one before the palm trees fully were fully grown

for me, the hard one is the scarab beetle because it only spawns after 11:00 pm
and it is dark, hard to see bugs on tree trunks! Also, night out with net is kind of scary because of scorpions!

I was lucky enough to get two tree islands today while looking for a villager. I caught two golden stags, and a bunch of giant stags and scarab beetles. The problem is that I got so distracted with the bugs that I still haven't found a good villager.

When I noticed it from afar I crept to it like a regular bug because I was afraid it would roll off like a snail and I'd miss it (I think they don't do anything when you run passed?)
