I'm sorry that happened, but I'm glad they didn't get away with it.

This reminds me, I dumped a lot of items on my beach recently and I really need to pick them up before I invite anyone over to get DIY recipes or anything.

Not to paint them in a bad light but I honestly think that's a common defense...I had a person steal my weeds because it "bothered" them. (they ran away from my sight, also this was like the first week of the game's launch) I never thought it was a foreshadowing/warning of this event...that person was on Reddit instead of Nookazon though.

That takes the cake for the dumbest thing I've heard today! Wow. I don't know how having weeds on your island could bother them in the slightest!

I know the weeds aren't something serious but a breach of trust is SEVERE. Had I not kicked that person out, it probably just not the weeds they're picking...I'm still traumatized with New Leaf someone stealing my hybrids that I worked hard breeding. I deliberately hacked my save file out of sheer anger and plopped fake hybrids that only breeds regular flowers (like basic colors). It's not morally right but seeing them sell stolen hybrids (from me) on Reddit (I was more active in Reddit in NL days), I just cackle because it's all fake. They deserved it.

But now, since my switch is in a pure condition, I can't implement that again nor I want to. I will just put bushes on the areas next time. I don't want to be spiteful, I just want to trade without getting taken advantage of. I wholeheartedly think not everyone is like this but I can't deny the fear this caused me.

Auto save only happens when someone enters or leaves the town.

Autosave happens every 10 minutes in multiplayer I think. I AFK in my bf's island to hang out with him! It autosaves at 10 minutes. (from what I've noticed.)

Ugh, it’s always awful when that happens to you. And it’s incredible how much adrenaline you can get from a scary experience! I am really skeptical of people from Nookazon/Reddit, I don’t know if their reviews are legit! I’ve been thinking about getting Raymond on Nookazon but honestly with the bad/scammy people that are on there I would rather pay the prices people on here are charging. I’m really sorry that that happened, I know how it feels and honestly there is not a lot worse than a shifty person on your island. I wish I could help, but honestly the only thing I could do is notify you when Leif is at my island! I agree! I just think that's a crazy thing for them to be bothered by enough to want to pick your weeds. I totally get where you're coming from and absolutely agree!

Yeah, never once I intended to sell ANY of my hybrids. It was merely for display purposes. Freaks me out it happened way often that it should in NL. Geez. Thank god we have fences now so we can be MORE CLEAR that it's not for touching.

Exactly. I mean, who does that? What's the point of staying beyond the intended trade? I've traded for a hundred times already and no one exactly thought about it. Maybe I just got unlucky and got this person as a trading partner. How awful. Their "excuse" doesn't make sense either because they kinda look like they deliberately searched for a gap...

Unless theres a sign that specifically says FREE, theres no reason to pick it up! I visited an island the other day and they had a sign that said Take1 Leave1 , despite this, i STILL asked if i could grab and leave something. again, sorry u had the bad luck but im glad you where quick on your wits to end the trade!

btw i could b wrong but i believe the game autosaves when somebody lands in ur island :0 but i could b wrong xD

I'm so sorry you had such a close call! I mostly visit other peoples islands for trades out of fear that opening my island would allow something like this to happen (although I only really interact with users on this board and my experience has been 100% positive)

I was raised to respect others and their property and that's exactly how I act when visiting someone's town and it baffles me that people cannot act with respect when visiting other people's towns

Don't let the experience knock your enjoyment of the game, it was someone else's foolishness and it shouldn't come between you and your town ❤

I don't think you're silly at all! I don't actually have any areas of my island fenced off for trading. I just trust that people will do the right thing. It's just a shame that there's so many people who actively try to steal.

It's very crucial to know when the save timers are going to appear so you have awareness of the window frame you need to act before anyone can do something stupid. Usually I have my right thumb on the home button or position my fingers to open the NookPhone and set it on camera mode so they're not aware I'm trapping them if they ever decide to steal. But at this specific trade I just wanted to do a quick trade of buying some simple panels. While that DID happen, the trader asked to shop. Of course, I'm not really against it. I welcome anyone to shop in my island! I guess I just got too complacent and didn't keep a very close eye on them. I did follow them to the Able Sisters tho...

This means: buy what you want at Nook's; put anything valuable in your house/storage; fence off areas if necessary and walk the perimeter to double-check!

Yeah, I actually fenced my areas! Well, except I missed one spot because the tree blocked the view. (I assumed I fenced it!) I'm usually very stern about fencing and locking areas but I guess this was a fatal mistake I almost had to pay LOL.

I think this still needs to be said though, you're right. We really need to prepare our islands before opening. I'm sure this was eyeopening for me. I really can't believe how there were someone like this, you know, literally checking fence gaps...it gives me shivers to think about it...

Haha "free to take" Don't listen to these people. They will find any excuse to clear their name and It's never because they're thieves. Honestly, for me if the trade isn't happening at the airport then we're not trading. My floor'd items arnt for taking unless I clearly said so
