I almost had a heart attack. (PSA)

After an IRL friend ransacked my island I am very paranoid about letting anyone in. She needed iron and I told her about 4-5 times to only take the stuff on the ground around the rocks. I went AFK to make lunch because I thought she understood. She took the stuff around the rocks, my turnips in their farm area, all of my fruit and all of the materials in my crafting area including 60+ customization kits. She brought back the crafting stuff (didn't realize she took my turnips until I was ready to sell) but she said she thought she could take it. I'm not really sure why people think if its on the ground its theirs to take. I use star pieces to decorate my town and now I'm having second thoughts.
About the star pieces - how about finding some custom path to place instead of star pieces? Some people might really want to take them.

Also, I feel that fear Dormire thought and ugh, I guess that person just thought they will get away with it. I don't understand, even when I was buying a villager I asked if I could enter that house just to be sure, like... that game and the community has that vibe which really makes me want to be good for people, isn't that with everyone? :< Though I'm not so trusting too - I prefer to buy things here as I can check people's feedback.

That's terrible.. if it was a really hard to find blind spot then they were obviously searching for ways to get out. I've had heaps of people from TBT come water my flowers right next to a beach full of my resources & DIYs, and yet no one has ever touched a thing!! guess I can only trust this community huh..

jesus i’m sorry that happened to you. that’s why i don’t like people being away from the airport and if they want to go shopping, i lead them to the area and don’t let them out of my sight ;u;

Also the alternate to the star pieces would be the Nova Lights. Big, yes. but they're the same as star pieces.

Omg nice save OP 👏👏👏
I’m glad you got your items back! Thank goodness it didn’t auto save. its a shame there are people like that but hopefully there are those who learn from their mistakes ( `_ゝ´)

IT just dawned on me that maybe they were lying about shopping. Maybe they wanted to see if they can run around the island. Maybe that's just my paranoia but yeah, you can't just find blind spots that easily. You have to have the full intentions to look for it. Eugh...

im so glad you caught them n fixed the problem!

for future reference, ive heard that nookazon isnt very safe to trade off of because of those kinds of people
i myself am even skeptical about trading on here because of the amount of stuff im receiving and giving away, yknow?

Yeah. It's actually my first bad encounter but this is VERY scary. I thought I was having New Leaf dejavu except I could've lost more than hybrids. I knew this would eventually happen but not like this. I'll keep in mind I will just visit instead of letting people visit esp. I haven't launched the event I'm making so I got tons of items lying around...I'm so saddened by this. I guess being complacent in a game where drop trading is the norm is bad. I'll make sure to properly fence my areas next time. 😭

It's ok! I haven't lost anything except my lifespan shortened from that fear. I swear, when the realization hit me I almost fainted from the fright LMAO...I'm glad I didn't stutter and got the game closed so not much harm done.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's a shame that people actively try and take advantage of others. Like who thinks to try and find a gap in the fence? I'm glad you were able to exit the game and prevent them from stealing anything.

Also, about the trader they thought the items were free to take because it was outside.

That's some nonsense right there. I have to assume people are lying when they use this excuse, or maybe Animal Crossing is the first and only multiplayer game they've played, so they have no knowledge of online gaming/trading etiquette. But even then, people should know that you just.. don't take things without asking, in real life or video games lol.

Guys, if you have items down and are trading with others, please fence them and make sure every blind spots are checked.
^ THIS 200% ^ Thank you for the warning!! Sorry to hear what happened, and I am super relieved to hear that you (and all items) are alright! Smart move to swiftly close the game in time before the save kicks in! (y)(y)
Let this incident be a loud reminder to other players that
- yes, this could happen to anyone
- you can't control how others behave, but at least you can implement ways to protect yourself.

That person deliberately looked for spots that they can go through my island. I'm so paranoid about my blind spot areas now. I should start filling vaultable areas with bushes because my hands are still shaking. That was not an accident. It was deliberate. Honestly, why are people like this...
Because they are pathetic a**holes, that's what they are. Before comments like oh they are probably new / young / whatever and didn't know better, please also understand that getting a rush by harming others is a part of human nature. Most of us are way better than letting that side get ahold of us, but sadly, a LOT of individuals enjoy deliberately being a jerk because they can, and they choose to. We see this everywhere, not just AC or in video games.

Sometimes I noticed that players are kinda being pressured into accepting a visitor/trade/demands to take stuff from your island. I can only add my 2 cents that try to look up that players' trade history, or how they generally behave. Some might look ok until you allow them into your island. You have ZERO obligation to 'be nice' when in doubt, or when they show signs of questionable behavior. Know your exits and options.

Again, thanks OP for sharing your (uh sorry unpleasant) experience...I hope you feel better soon!! 💐

Omg that’s terrifying! I’m so glad you managed to stop them just in time. If that happened I would be traumatized from trading on Nookazon ever again >_>

Not to paint them in a bad light but I honestly think that's a common defense...I had a person steal my weeds because it "bothered" them. (they ran away from my sight, also this was like the first week of the game's launch) I never thought it was a foreshadowing/warning of this event...that person was on Reddit instead of Nookazon though.

Seriously, of course this won't let me discourage trading but I can't deny that this scared the living hell out of me lol. I'm hoping to find Leif eventually to plant bushes around vaultable areas...more safety the better. :(

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I really don't understand why people are like that. Glad you managed to kick them out just in time! Honestly, what they said 'I thought it was free!' kinda seems like a lie, cos who would actually think someone who tried to fence of their island and free items for people who wanted to trade <.<

Honestly though, makes me realise that I am way to naive/trusting myself. I assume that because I'm nice, others will be too, so I never fence of my area, and even worse, if I'm doing a trade at my island, I'm inclined to just go all 'hi come whenever dodo code is: xxxx, I'll be afk tho, so just put your items down and my items to you is placed in front of the airport'. At least I only trade for people here, where the community seems to be less awful.

My question is, why would they think that those items are free when you didn't say or invite them to take those items? there's a certain etiquette you follow when visiting other people's islands, in their case, they were quite rude
