Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but wondering, do people like to catalog clothes? All the catalog threads I've seen are for furnitures and clothes are afterthought. I get that you can display furnitures but some of the clothes are pretty cool and cute and looks good as decorations too.

Mainly, I am cleaning my inventory and I have way too many clothes I like and want to keep even though I don't wear them =\ Will people be interested in cataloging them in exchange of furniture catalog? Pretty sure I spent more bells on clothes than getting furnitures lol.

Also, what clothes are considered popular and rare? Shouldn't they appear randomly anyways? (And depending on season?)

Thanks!

Right now I'm focused on cataloging just the clothing, umbrellas, wallpaper, and flooring. It's nice because there are fewer items in each category, and it's not such a pain to get color variations. It feels like a realistic personal goal without too much online trading. The only issue is that clothing takes up so much space. Some items have up to ten color variations! I don't want to sell things until I decide which to keep or give to my villagers, so my storage floats around 1,500

i personally like to just so i have options. sadly i think furniture is higher ranked though. the bulldog tops seem to be pretty rare (i have yet to see them nor get an offer for me to buy them) and the visual punk sets as it took me weeks to find just the wig then a few days for the dress to show in my shop and i was lucky enough to find someone to sell me the outfit...still missing the boots but those are from kicks.

I think people tend to be more interested in cataloging furniture since it's nearly impossible to get every variation on your own island. At least for clothing, if they show up in your shop, you can just buy every color. I don't think people would be adverse to cataloging in exchange for furniture, but it's definitely less in demand.

I know what you mean, there's so many colors. Finally cleaned up inventory and few days later they are full again...

Interestingly I found the visual punk outfit and next day my villager gifted me the dress.. lol? I have not seen the bulldog tops, I did see the tiger dress at one point =\ Apparently there's also a meme cat one?

Makes sense. I figure it was probably you will eventually encounter it in shop compare to furniture colour variations...

I'm getting to the point where I have most of the furniture I want so I'm actually more interested in cataloging clothes! I'm sure some people feel the same way :] Especially variations of hats and other accessories!

I've been to a "summer wardrobe" cataloging event, that was fun. I'd be interested in more clothing cataloging events.

As for space, I've had to purge my inventory several times now. Now that I have two other characters, I can just transfer my rarely used items to them. A friend of mine also had the idea of storing outfits shes not using in wands.

The dreamy clothes or the Pom-Pom stuff are the ones I see people asking for the most. I’ve never seen them in the shops and I’ve only gotten the dreamy pants from a balloon and the Pom-Pom sweater through a villager.

i got a cat one via a villager. oof lucky lolz. i honestly just think it's all rng cuz my friends got the basketball outfits before i did. the bulldog jackets are pretty sweet bulldog jacket

Ooh that's encouraging news! I have been mostly focused on dresses so far, but I'll keep that in mind!

Interesting, so it is all summer related dresses?

T^T My island is already cramp enough with 10 villagers, I don't think I'll ever add more residents...

I've seen pom-pom stuff and let them go because I wasn't interested in them TAT I have bought all the dreamy dresses. And was gifted a dreamy cloth from villagers. There's dreamy pants?

Yes! Thank you all for the input! I need to clean up my island a bit and maybe try this =) <3

people typically prefer to catalog furniture but options for clothing cataloging is nice, too! i’d definitely be interested as i don’t like spending bells on colour variants that i don’t like so clothe cataloging comes in handy for me :P

I think cataloguing furniture is a higher priority because it's harder to get the different varieties without going online and cataloguing or trading. With clothing, they aren't colour locked to your island, so you can get every single item normally. You can also just go shopping on people's islands to buy them yourselves.I prefer to buy clothes rather than cataloguing anyway because it would be a pain to then go buy all the pieces I wanted 5 at a time, every day. At that rate and how many clothes I actually want, I would never be able to catch up lol. Which is why I'd just rather buy the clothes at Able's than catalogue them.

Lol true. Though I wish buying cloth is easier than doing it one at a time =\ Like if there's a shopping cart or something. That's what I like about the catalog shopping, so simple and you can even search what you have. Not that I have been using it for a while other than buying k.k songs =\

Full disclosure: I run a pay-per-set cataloging shop that allows people to choose which furniture sets they catalog. (This is contrast to bulk cataloging services, where you pay a fixed price for access to an island with items laid out for the purpose of cataloging. That being said, this isn't important; what's more important is acknowledging that I am involved in the cataloging scene.)

I think the big problem with having a clothing catalog shop is that demand for a specific set of clothes isn't as centralized as furniture. Lots of people want to catalog desktop computers, laptops, soft-serve lamps, surfboards, etc., but there isn't really a counterpart to that for clothes. The closest thing I can think of are the crown / royal crown, but I've seen multiple threads advertising crown sales with next to no traffic. Clothing cataloging might seem like a good service to provide in theory, but the fact that not as many people are actively seeking clothing catalog trades, combined with the already massive headache that is arranging catalog trades makes it kind of not worth IMO.

I definitely agree that there should be a shopping cart. It's awful going in and out all the time.

I used to not like clothing and just buy things that I would really use, but now I'm clothing obsessed and buy everything that I may end up gifting to my villagers (which most of the time not tbh lol), as for cataloging clothes, it is definitely not as popular as cagaloging furnitures since furnitures are harder to come by in different colors and variations than the clothing that will be available in every color once it shows up in your shop, but I still could see people asking to catalog certain clothes that are "rarer" to come by so it's not totally forgotten, just not as big as the furniture ones...

I see. That's an interesting take. May I ask what is the massive headache that comes with catalog trades?

Lol, I started buying clothes for villagers first.. Then I put them in my storage and completely forgot about them! The worst thing I did was getting a light blue layered tank and accidentally gave it to Kabuki.. and he likes it... omg.. Can't rid of it regardless of any clothes I give to him afterwards... T^T
