How much do villager's interiors really matter to you when choosing villagers?

I don't care that much about them, haha. Especially because I still have my starter 5 with the starter houses :3 if i give them furniture, though, I give stuff I think will look nice in their house C:

Anyone else like me and straight up not care at ALL about a villagers home interior? I mean some weird design choices were certainly strange, but it doesn't really bother me. I spend next to no time in my villagers houses, I'm always surprised to see people put thought to their homes interiors.
100% don't care what their houses look like before, during, or after. I give them whatever bugs or fishes they ask for. I give them furniture I think they might like or would go with their decor or just furniture I straight up don't want and kept to give as presents instead of selling to the Nook's.

I care a little bit because there are some crazy ones out there, but I only let it help me decide between two choices in the end.

I definitely care more about their exterior than their interior!
That being said, I try to avoid giving them bugs/fish haha

I don't care about interior at all, altho i dont go out of my way to gift my villagers fish or bugs. I care a bit more about the house exteriors because that affects my actual landscaping and island

I care a fair amount. If it’s really ugly or plain it just bothers me whenever I visit them in their houses. I also try to gift furniture that would match the interior or would look cute with it.

The interior design of villager homes in Animal Crossing games can matter to me sometimes, but not particularly often and generally not that much. For example, I didn't adopt Lobo in New Leaf for years because I found his Cowhide Rug to be sort of weird in the Animal Crossing setting, but I've since come around on it and intend to adopt him into one of the towns since I just love his design so much. I've soured on villagers I used to like more too, like Bob, because I just don't like the Kiddie items, and intend to replace him in the town he's been a resident of for a long time.

In New Horizons, with some of the more extravagant houses some villagers have, I'd sort of prefer that they have some household furniture that actually makes it look like something someone could live in, but it's not an absolute necessity. Ankha fits my island's historical theme perfectly and I love her character design, having had her as a resident of my main New Leaf town for years, and her house's only householdy furniture is a Golden Toilet since the Throne isn't a furniture item in New Horizons (yet?). Would I prefer that her house look more like a house? Yeah, definitely, but that won't stop me from moving her out of my New Leaf town and into New Horizons.

Character design and how well a particular villager fits with the theme of the town or island tend to take precedence for me over what their homes look like, inside or out, basically 99% of the time.

not at all! my main priorities for choosing villagers are nostalgia and character design (usually both, like with punchy and filbert). house interiors don't matter to me at all, since i don't spend too much time inside my villagers' houses. if it's ugly, i just don't go inside too often lol

I definitely don't care at all about their original house interior - like I'd never choose a villager solely based on their house interior and if one of my favorites didn't have a great interior, I wouldn't care either.
However; the mistake I made in NL was forcing my villagers to buy ugly fossils from Reese and Cyrus' just to get more bells so I really didn't want to gift them unnecessary furniture this time around. Also, since joining the boards, I was a bit surprised to see how many people care about adopting "original" ungifted villagers and I think some of it rubbed off on me a little.
Unfortunately, a lot of my villagers' houses did get cluttered with fish and bugs over time because each time they want to buy/trade things, I can't deny them... lol.

Unless their house interior is really, really ugly (like Billy's or something like that), I don't really care. I usually care more about their looks because I don't spend much time in their houses anyway.

Doesn't matter actually, if its that bad, I'll try to make it work for me.

I dont really care :O I do how ever spend time in my villagers house though.

not at all to me lol. i'm like the OP, i rarely visit my villager homes. it's not a dealbreaker for me, even though i'm not necessarily a fan of hazel's plain house (or colton's house devoid of regal furniture 😭 ). but i did let go of drago for his starter home that was an absolute gross disappointment compared to his regularly amazing dim sum restaurant-style home. i pick villagers based on their personality and design, i don't even really care about house exteriors either.

Drago has one of my favourite interiors! I rarely visit their homes unless it’s a rainy day. But I was quite disappointed with Butch’s home, he deserves a comfy cottage house. Not a roadside!
I don’t really mind the exterior though, it’s nice when they’re different! (Pekoes looks beautiful though)

I like my villagers to have homes that feel like homes unless I really love their theme. But I do enjoy customizing villagers homes ny giving them things that make sense.

For instance, Marina has the standard normal home. I gave her a lot of pink and white customized wooden furniture to make her house feel more like her.

Walking into Ruby’s house was a disappointment. At the time I didn’t know what she was based off of, but even then I expected her to have a really cute interior... not the moon.
