"Why does everyone like _____"

Everyone.Likes.Whoever.They.Like

I love Molly. You don't? I don't care.

You love Bob? I don't, do you care? Probably not.

Why can't we just accept that everyone likes whoever they like, sometimes many people like one person, sometimes many people dislike one person. It doesn't mean anything!

Why do we feel the need to post threads asking why one character is liked by many people? It just gets into a big argument between people who love/hate that character followed by some superiority complex by someone who doesn't like a "tier one" character.

I don't mean to sound rude but can we just stop this now? xD

It's complicated. Many people who post it want to feel "SUPERIOR" that they don't like a tier five and that they like tier ones. It's all a matter of attention.

I totally agree. I don't see why it matters why someone likes or dislikes a character.. they just do. :/

Yes, even when it comes to pure aesthetics, people have a wide variety of tastes.

Yes, sometimes a villager with a pleasing design seems even more pleasing because of her popularity. There is the individual's taste, then there is the community's taste; the latter often influences the former. In other words, villagers may be compared to clothing styles (i.e., you 'wear' it because everyone else is, and you accept it so readily because you do find it at least somewhat attractive already). Not the most sensitive way of putting it, but perhaps a worthy comparison.

Although I started a few threads like these before, I agree that it can be annoying to carry such trend for months. Some villagers, non-villagers, and items such as fish or furniture series are just more popular than others. I'm not sure what the primary reason is on some, but I know a popular reason on others.

That's true. Many of the threads are based off the tier thread in the Villager Trading/Selling threads and discussion boards.

I think the threads exist and get read for the same reason we pick up People magazine, lol. It's fun to love and hate the popular and wonder what the fuss is about. The difference here is we get to respond, and we can also start threads on why we love our tier 5 villagers:) What we need to be careful of is not to confuse how we feel about villagers with how we should treat the people who love them. I guess I'd hate to get rid of the threads just because some people don't behave well.

Sometimes I feel they mean to cause trouble.

I agree. It will always get into arguments, saying things like:

"Oh, I LOVE Bob!"
"Bob, stinks. Merengue is much better."
"No, that's wrong. Bob is totally better."
"I disagree. Everyone knows Merengue is THE BEST!"

Honestly, I couldn't care less which villagers I get in my town. Neither one is better than the other. They are all the same. It just seems like Marshal is much better than all of these guys because he is most popular. My brother has Marshal in his town, and I don't say things like "Oh, can we trade? I hate Erik. He's ugly."

(No offense to all the people who liked these villagers, I like them, too!)

I just re-read my original post and realise it comes across as quite rude - I'm sorry if it seems a bit snappy, I didn't mean it too!

I like your idea of it being like a magazine SoSu, that's interesting. Though I've seen it happen more than it should that people start being rude to other members simply because of which villagers they like :S

So true, all of these comments. However, what is nice is lately a few threads did not dissolve into arguments, and people just got to say why they liked such and such a villager. Sometimes when we don't understand, it is really interesting and fun to see why other people do.

Other times, tho, it's true that someone just wants to make trouble.

But the latest threads, the ones I've seen, anyway, were really polite and there wasn't any "bashing" going on. It was nice. :)

I didn't think you were rude. I think you were trying to find a way to reduce rudeness, and you found a place it's likely to occur. But it will crop up elsewhere even if you eliminate these threads.

I'm sure you're right about that happening sometimes. But won't trouble makers find other threads to spread their discontent?

Although there are some opinions that I'm very strong about and have little or no tolerance towards people with contradicting opinions (I have no opinions like that with video gaming in general), I really hate seeing opinion wars on the internet, especially over pixel people like Lolly or Isabelle. It doesn't matter who you like or who you hate. It doesn't matter who you have. I also hate those who trash talk towns that have a certain villager based on popularity. I don't care if you like all the villagers I hate. I don't care if you hate all the villagers I like. I don't care if you don't agree with my ideas for the next game. What I want to see stop is people attacking others for disagreeing with opinions.

There should be a separate sub-forum for all the haters to complain about villagers being ugly and stuff like that. :P
Cause the haters going hate, hate, hate, but
BABY I'M JUST GOING SHAKE, SHAKE, SHAKE!!!
