How do you justify expensive purchases?

I usually don't make huge purchases, but for the ones I do make I decide whether it's worth it by how much hours of enjoyment I'll get. For games I think of 1 dollar equals one hour of playtime. For plushies I do a lot of thinking to determine if it's worth it. I usually wait a couple days. Although I'm never gonna buy that $350 Piplup plush

I have enough in savings that I could afford to buy it now, but I'm trying to save as much as I can. So I put aside $20 a week into an account, which I can use for anything I want.

Most bigger purchases for me are connected to a new hobby, which I have a habit of cycling through quickly. So I just look at the purchase and think, if I'm still interested in x months, then I can go ahead a buy it.

typically i'll ask myself these questions to help make my decision:
>if it's within my budget
>if I can see myself actually utilizing/wearing/etc the item and not just storing it
>if it's good quality
>if its still on my mind after a week or so

it depends - for the most part, if i know i have the funds to afford something, i'll just buy it. a lot of expensive things that i buy tend to be merch that ships from the us, but since it's from a creator i want to support and something i really want then i'll just buy it. plus they usually announce in advance if they're dropping something so i've already checked i'm in a financial place to afford it.
if something is *really* expensive i do a lot of research around it to be sure it's worth the price and that i'm not wasting my money. basically if i think i'll use it enough to get my money's worth, then i'm happy to pay it

I recently bought GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition for like $40.19 on PS4 digital store. I had to wait for this game since I heard it had so many problems and glitches. I heard that most of the issues were fixed and I figured why not give it a try. Sure enough I bought it and it came with 3 games (GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City, and GTA 3) which was a good deal.

Whenever a new game comes I prefer not to spend $60 or $70 on it when it launches so I prefer to wait for discounts so that way I don't spend too much money on one game.

Nice, hope you're enjoying them. I was thinking about picking that set up eventually. I haven't really looked into it though to see if they beefed up the graphics or just upscaled it like Skyward Sword did.

I'm still trying to figure this out. I ordered dining chairs today, but I'm feeling guilty. In the past, I would only buy used furniture or cheap stuff from places like Ikea or amazon, but now that I've moved into my condo, I want to fill it with with nicer things. Plus I know that being cheap usually doesn't pay off. But spending the money can be so hard! ; ;

Yeah, I wouldn't dare buy anything that I can't afford, even if it looks promising/tempting.

If I do however, I make sure to save enough money to buy it. Have I done that lately? No. Will I ever do it eventually? Maybe. Will I regret doing it? It honestly depends on what I buy and how many times I use it.

If it makes me happy or is going toward something that I enjoy (for example, just spent like $80 on a capture card with my stream money FOR my stream).

I've bought many an expensive thing for someone who doesn't have a job tbh. But- I'm still young and can afford to do things like that. It's hard to part with the money but once I do I rarely, if at all, regret it.

I adopted a mindset that if the content keeps me busy for hours and is something I'd enjoy, then I don't mind shelling out the money for it, though I do my best to see if there's a cheaper price for it or a sale going on before I buy it so I can save money on the item.

I’ll buy something expensive if:

1. I need it to survive
2. It’s a treat I feel I’ve earned after grinding for a while and it’s within budget
3. I’m buying it as a gift for someone else and it’s within budget

I swear, my expensive purchase downfalls usually occur when I see something I want to buy for someone else.

If possible, I buy myself time before making an expensive purchase. This actually only happened to me a few days ago so I’ll use it as an example. I was in a shoe store trying on boots for winter. There were these two pairs that I absolutely adored and looked great on: one with fur at the top and buckles, the other were far more elegant with a heel and a very good quality material. Both were high quality and VERY expensive. I couldn’t get over how lovely both pairs were and wanted to justify buying them both. Instead, I went home, looked them up online to see if anywhere else had them cheaper and then had look at my wardrobe. What would they work with, would I get enough wear out of them. In the end I decided to just get one pair and leave it at that. Most expensive thing I’ve bought myself in a few years. I hate spending money on myself, I always feel guilty. Honestly, waiting a couple of days took the emotion out of it and meant that I was being far more logical about the decision. Time allows for better choices for me personally. Most of the time I’ll leave it, go home and think through a series of practice questions before buying myself anything. As a result, I don’t buy a lot of things. When I do, it’s within a budget and we’ll justified.
