How do you hunt bugs?

I'm just curious, what's your bug hunting style?

Do you catch everything you see, or only things above a certain value, or only when you're intentionally grinding for bells? Fishing is a little different, because it's hard to know what you're getting (other than finned fish).

I tend to catch things that sell above 1k when wandering around my island. I often will go to NMT islands to fill up my pockets with fish/bugs (usually also above 1k) if I'm short on bells. Something about having a finite "run" makes it a little more manageable than prowling the island endlessly.

Lately, I’ve been catching at least three of each bugs just in preparation when Flick comes around to create bug models. But usually, I tend to only go after bugs that are of higher value, so like the Atlas moth or scorpions for example. But since those are scarce, I’ve been prioritizing fishing lately instead. Overall, I tend to prefer fishing though!

I'll catch anything worth at least 1k. The paper butterflies and man-faced stinkbugs are easy enough to catch and they add up over time.

Agreed! I actually used to pass over these, but realized how many bells I was just walking right past... And I'm still in constant need of bells, lol.

I do the same, I catch bugs and fish in threes in anticipation of Flick and CJ for a model. I tend to only purposefully fish or catch if I haven’t caught the fish or bug yet. If I know I’m due for either to arrive then I save big catches for them because I know they pay higher than nooks for them.

i run left to right and over bugs to despawn bugs then catch the ones i want.

I've been catching the bugs that are above 1k and I'm saving them for flicks models since they're worth a lot on the forums. Having multiple profiles on this game makes it easier to obtain more models.

I just catch bugs to make sculptures, but flick seems to not want to come around anymore so I have like 6 bugs ready to be handed over... Oof.

I try to catch everything at least once. As soon as I donate something I stop catching it if it’s not valuable. I have a lot of trouble catching the bugs on stumps. It seems that they fly off before I can get close enough. im Also not that great at catching scorpions(0 caught) and tarantulas(1caught)

Tarantulas and scorpions are hard! If they see you and rear up, you can slowly, slooooowly creep up to them with the net after they sit down again. When they rear up again, stop dead in your tracks until they sit back down. Just keep creeping and stopping until you're like a square away.
This took me a long time to figure out. And I'm still a bad judge of distance, haha.

I'm collecting 3 of certaing bugs and fish for models at the start of the month when new ones come. After that it's to earn nook miles but I try to go for higher selling critters.
As for how much I absolutely suck at hunting bugs in general: very. It's dumb luck or a mystery tour for me.

I'm not in need of any bells, so usually I just ignore the bugs. The times I actually go ahead with catching the bugs are when it's a new month and there are new bugs to be had, when I want to catch bugs for Flick's models or there's a Nook Miles+ task to catch bugs.

i used to catch everything that was worth at least 1k but now that i have 100k+ worth of bugs and fish just festering in my storage please cj and flick, show up :c, i typically won’t catch anything unless it’s worth around 2k-3k ;;

By slapping them with my net.

I go for butterflies (emperor, agrias, the fancy shmancy ones) and beetles.

Insects right now in the SH aren't great, so I ignore them all.

I tend to just catch mostly butterflies and moths so I can give them to Flick for models.
I also catch the new bugs when they are available and I first see them.
