Oh never mind I figured it out. Gotta stand a bit further away from them!

Yep, glad you got it figured out. I still accidentally talk to the villagers by mistake sometimes when I'm trying to catch fleas, but I try to stand about 1 tile away from them when I swing my net and that usually works.
