Was it significant to you or just something that sounded pretty or what?
I'm starting my third town (free Platinum reward, holla!) and I want it to be more personal I think. I'm using my irl name, or rather the short form of it and I'm thinking of naming my town after a place in my home country that I like...something like Sochi, Kazan, Moscow, or just plain Russia.
My first town is named after a now defunct fictional place in the X-Men world.
My second town is called Sparkle because it sounded cute.
Also had a town called Alderaan (Star Wars) before I reset it.
I came up with Ophylix as a variation of Ophelia somehow. I just cooked it up in my brain and liked it.
Olympus is from Greek mythology
Wishfall I got from a town name generator.
My first town was named Pinkleaf because I wanted it to be pink and pretty. My 2nd town was named Murasaki because I thought it sounded cool and its purple in japanese
my very first town's name was Sunland. just pulled it outta my ass, rly. i don't hate it but i think it's stupid now. my main town's name which i'm resetting once i switch everything over to my new town, was Agrestic from the show Weeds lmao. i was binge-watching it at the time and idk i never grew to hate it. my new town's name is Jupiter bc i like the sound of it, the planet and the Sailor!
I always look for something overly sugary and cute for a town name since it's always gonna be a town where I'm the mayor of a bunch of cute little animals with giant heads. I like going for a two word name cause I think it looks cooler (like Baton Rouge instead of Charleston). Last town was Toy Dog, this time it's Gum Cat. Flag is a colorful cat head and it's in my lore that we're ruled by and we pray to a giant gum cat (our mystic savior).
I hate my town name. It's Widnes, after where I live, just because when I got the game I was so excited to start it that I wasn't too bothered about what I called it. But now I really want to change it because it's stupid and un-creative I refuse to restart my town though
If I could re-name it I would probably call it something simple and pretty like Orchid or Blossom. I also quite like the name Wishfall for some reason(nice town name munchlax)
My first town name is Balamb...from Final Fantasy VIII. I would have loved Dagurerreo, from FFIX, but too many letters. If it wouldn't mean losing two years of work, I'd reset it.
My second town is Bunifrey. Which I really have to give credit to my boyfriend for that one. Our bunny had just passed away and it's a mix of Bun Bun (her name) and Galifrey (Doctor Who). So that one's very special to me.
I named my town Lux because it means "light" in Latin. I went with that because I wanted it to somehow be related to Hikari's Crest of Light in DigimonAdventure01.
With my main town I decided to pick a Pokemon town name. Being a fan since '96 I wanted a little piece of the Pokemon world with me in ACNL. After looking at a long list of all Pokemon town names, Cinnabar was my fave and it just stuck straight away.
With my second town, like you I wanted to pick something personal to me. I decided to thesaurus some words that described my personality, and I liked Taciturn the best. It's unique, and it seemed to fit just right for me. Good luck finding the right town name, and congrats on the platinum reward, that's pretty sweet getting a third game for free!
When I named my town, I wanted to name it after stars because I love those. So, I thought of "Star Belle" because one of my old friends lived on a street with a similar name, but I could only fit Bel if I wanted the space. Unwilling to squish the words together, I named my town "Star Bel".
Then after the coins fell from the trees and I saw the stars, I realized I accidentally named my town after the appearance the game's money! Whoops!
I can't remember the town name that I had used for City Folk back in late 2008 (I think it was CanyonCT or something) but I named my town from New Leaf Canyon because I once saw that a model town called Canyonville in a Disney cartoon and that name just got stuck in my head.
I always use Canyon City as name whenever I have to think of a location name.
My current town name is pretty lame lol It's called "Reborn" and guess I choose it simply because I had decided to embark on a a name game since I was dissatisfied with my first. My original town was Alkandor (Pronounced: Al-Can-Derr) so I figured if I am going to start new, it will be like the town is going to be "reborn" again. So yeah.....Reborn...
I plan on making a basement full of stalker-ish items, if you've seen Mirai Nikki you'd get it, but it's a secret and a synonym for secret is sub rosa so pow! it also sounds pretty...
When I had the Gamecube version (so, like, a million years ago) all my town names were references to whatever other series I was into at the time.
With New Leaf, I was sorely tempted to do that again - I think Jinae is just a really pretty name, but I didn't want to be super weeby about it so I went with Honeydew, because I was listening to a Rush song and that word came up right as I was thinking about what other name to use. That town ended up being a bust, lasting barely a week before I reset for a better map, and that town became Bastille, carrying on the tradition of Rush song influence in my names. Quick and easy, because I tend to agonize over name choice if I take much time to think about it.
If I could, I'd go back and change it though, because it's a pretty sounding word but it doesn't fit the town at all; it ended up being all grassy and full of flora and while it was kind of funny to compare myself to the warden of an animal prison initially, it just doesn't quite work anymore. I wish town renaming was a thing SO BAD. I'd probably go back and change it to Jinae like I originally wanted to.
When naming the secondary town, I took ages. I mean actual days. I had a wordpad file and sticky notes covered in possible names, and all of them were very pretty, but since I already knew what kind of town I wanted to make I at least had a jumping-off point. I wanted something German or Russian because I'm fond of those languages, though trying to find a short German word that also sounded nice was hell, lmao. I settled on Rosmarin out of the 100+ things I had written down, because ultimately, the meaning of the word rosemary is "dew of the sea", and not only am I a huge sucker for anything ocean-related, but most of the other names I'd been considering were somehow sea related as well.
That, and all the witchy websites, as well as historical sources, cite rosemary's symbolism as such:
Rosemary was used to ward off evil spirits and nightmares. The wood was used to make musical instruments. [...] An old saying says "Where Rosemary flourishes, the Woman rules" and in England it was believed that rosemary could not grow in the garden of the home unless the mistress was the master. [...] In France, Rosemary was burnt, along with Juniper berries in sick rooms and hospitals to purify the air.
"Another story of rosemary is that a beautiful young woman from Sicily was changed into a rosemary bush. At the time of this transformation, Sicily was under the domination of Circe, who caused violent volcanoes to erupt and plants to wither and die. She also enchanted the inhabitants so that they would throw themselves into the sea. The blue-eyed woman who had become rosemary held to the cliffs to remind men of the ever-renewing power of good in the world. (I don't even know how this makes sense but omg I thought it was pretty cool regardless)"
And the blue/purple coloring of the flowers on the plant itself go along with the color theme I'm using for the town itself too, so it just... is perfect for it all-around.
When it comes to the cycle town, I named it Roschen because I totally misunderstood the German translation of the word. I always think of "florets" as being tiny flowers, as that's what I was taught the word meant, but apparently that's a lesser-used definition and it usually refers to broccoli florets instead. And I love me some broccoli, but that's uh... not what I was going for. Had I looked into it a little more, I would have picked something else. (And I also would have refrained from naming my mayor STIRFRY. I love silly food names but good lawd.)
TL;DR: I named my primary town without thinking much about it and would change it now if I could. The second town I put a LOT of thought into and I'm mostly happy with it. The cycling town I would change in a heartbeat because I figured it would just be some throwaway thing so I didn't think about that one much either.
