has something changed since the amiibo update? i thought the only way to get a tan was staying on the island too long but now i see i have a slight tan and i have just been around my town and notihg else. what happened?

Tanning happens in your town during the summer. It's not as fast as in the Island, but it does happen if you're outside long enough.

This isn't an update, it has always been there.

huh, guess i didnt realise that, thanks. been a while since i have played in the summer.

it happens everywhere in the summer and all year around on the island.
if you don't want it umbrellas and some hats stop you from tanning

Yeah, it happens during the summer. Don’t wear accessories or hats and don’t use umbrellas and you’ll get a tan.

Yeah I had so much tan because of visiting islands so I wore a straw hat and a mask (jester). It helped to remove it!

There's more to avoiding tans. Wear pants and long sleeves while you're playing. Sure, your character might sweat their backs off but those are one of the ways to avoid it.

I do hope tanning in the next animal crossing mainline game would be a shampoodle thing that’s permanent on your character because I’m tired of waiting around outside just to tan. It’s also annoying for players if they dont know about this. The game doesn’t even hint you about it at first but if you talk to Snooty villagers around summer or spring, they would talk about it.

Tanning happens when your skin is exposed during the summer anywhere. If you want to prevent this, wear hats and long sleeved shirts/dresses to prevent tanning :3

Yeah, if you're in your town in the sun in summer without an umbrella, hat, or other big clothing items (long sleeves, not too sure about that one though), you can start to tan slightly.

i agree! i think it would also be nice in the next game if you could pre-select it before you start, like in pocket camp (and hhd i believe?). i just think its pretty unfair that pale is the default and acnl players with darker complexitions have to wait around for hours to see some representation of themselves in their mayor, and even then it fades so fast.... :(

very true. i think it should be an option for what skin complexion u want because there is way more than just one in real life. i would think some people that plays would want their mayor to favor them more. good point!

@christy right! i'm happy they decided to allow players to pick their own skin tone in recent releases such as pocket camp though- i think if we do get a new animal crossing game for the switch it's highly likely they'll include this feature again ^^ let's hope!

During the summer season, tanning speeds up a lot, but it happens in every season. Although, wearing wide brim hats slows down the process a lot
