How "dense" do you consider your island decoration to be?

When you decorate your island do you cover every square inch and really get everything shoved in there, or are you someone who leaves a lot of dead space? I've been covering everything in stakes, dark dirt flower beds, and trying to get lots of furniture in there. Which do you *personally* think looks better? It seems to me a lot of the most popular island images are super dense and packed, but somewhat surprisingly I've seen a lot of tutorials and tips by youtubers on design whose islands looked... somewhat sparse to me? It's not at all a criticism just an observation, especially Chase Crossing who I've been watching this evening.

i guess mine is a bit dense but i definitely think empty space can both look and feel better o: mobility is super important to me, so i always make sure to place flowers here and there by my paths between the fencing and other decorations—it gives me a bit of breathing room if other players or villagers ever happen to block my path!

I wouldn't say I've got it all bunched together...more purposeful.

How wide do you make your paths/what's your pathing method? I have my paths mostly in little trenches between my platforms and cliffs.

i’m kind of in-between? i don’t want every inch of my island covered in something but i also don’t like large bare areas ;u;

I try to keep my island a bit sparse just because I still want to get my resources and I like to move around freely. Depending on how much items/flowers you put on your island, there's a chance it might be too much and you'll start noticing lag/frame drop.

I went onto an island and my movements were definitely slowed down. Couldn't run how I normally would.

i do three tiles wide for my “main” roads (for example, my shopping district) and two tiles for “side” roads! i know that one-tile pavement sometimes looks better (especially for more natural, foresty islands, or paths leading from the doorways of resident houses), but i feel the need to stay on paths and it would probably drive me crazy c’: it feels so nice to run free!

I like maximizing and all of the layers of detail that go into the denser style designs, but anything can look pretty in this game.

I definitely prefer wide enough paths. 3 tiles minimum.

mine have a very open and wide path, easy for running around. My town cant be densely packed because to me, you lose functionality then. My town has some more so, packed areas. But for the most part it looks 'clean' yet decorated!

Such a pretty pallet of color oof! Am I the only person who kinda misses the worn down use paths that looked so natural in NL?

I think my island is moderately filled! I enjoy being able to access different areas easily so I could never stand a super packed island. I do appreciate those who like to max out what they put on their islands though, that organization is insane to me 😂

I like to keep my island as open as I could because I like “playing” on my island better than “touring” it. I will get bored in an overly decorated island where all I can do is walk. I like running around chasing balloons and shaking trees so while I appreciate touring aesthetic islands, I don’t do it on my personal island where I play.

I guess I don't know yet lol. I like to make the most use of the space I'm given, but at the beginning that led to me creating a lot of closed sections with tight blocks in a grid of 2-unit paths, instead of open flowing spaces like I'm trying to do now. The open spaces give me more room to leave empty space without it feeling empty.

My paths remain 2 units wide because I really want them to match my bridge/incline width lol. But I might change that to 4 units for the main road that stretches from the airport all the way up through the island. As long as it's symmetrical! I just can't do 3 unit paths - tried, couldn't make it fit with everything else, just decided I'd connect buildings like my house and the museum using horizontal paths.

I feel like my island is decorated enough even the beach. I don't like having dead spots or areas that only have lots of trees and flowers. Oh and especially flowers. I shovel the ones that starts to grow almost everyday or each time I see something that is out of place. It looks messy to me.

The only dead space I know is a game. Terribly violent. Loved it.

I like open spaces. Mainly because I like having the choice of how and where I want to walk, rather than having to stick to one designated path to get from point A to point B. I like being able to wander off the beaten path too.

All paths on my island are one tile wide. They meander a little but they also serve to link the different neighbourhoods and areas of activity. I have 3 small areas with stalls. The rest of the island are open spaces with little corners of interest, where one might find a hammock next to a tiny library at a small pond, or maybe a table and chair with a stack of magazines next to them, or a picnic mat with a packed lunch and a chess board under the cherry trees.

My love of open spaces may have something to do with the fact that I have lived all my life in a concrete jungle where towering apartment and office blocks and skyscrapers are everywhere. ACNH is my escape.

I'm not working on my island yet but I want a good middle density. I don't want to be playing the game "the floor is lava" on my island.

I want to run freely like a wildebeest.

I like my island very densly packed! by this point I have so much resources that i don't farm them anymore and I seldom fish and catch bugs, only at the beginning of months. I mostly speak to my villagers and decorate. haha

It’s pretty dense but, honestly, I’ve been on islands that are so packed with stuff that there‘s literally just one narrow path that you can follow. It’s impressive that people could terraform and decorate their island to that extent but I honestly can’t imagine that being any fun at all to navigate through on a daily basis.

It's quite dense but the paths are wide (around 3-4 squares). If it's not covered in outdoor furniture, I usually have a custom path over it (e.g., flower patterns).

i do love the cluttered look, so ive been trying to cram all areas with flowers and furniture, but i have to admit it does make moving around quite hard sometimes!
