How could Nintendo really excite you with paths?

I was really excited for paths before this game came out, but I gotta say, I get frustrated with the limitations they have. I wish we could:
*Change the tile of the plaza to match
*Round off the edges/ends of single width paths, not just double width paths
*Create diagonal paths
*Have in-game tools for odd paths like stepping stones, wooden planks

I get that you can use designs for stepping stones/wooden planks, but when your character runs over them, it sounds like a yoga mat that got Coke spilled on it. Imagine in-game wooden planks that sound like wood and aren't too big/clunky. I tried using the wood pathing and doing like 2x1 strips and spacing them apart...it looked really bad. Also, Happy Home designer had rugs you could place outside, so it's not like you couldn't have small floor items too.

I have another thing about paths that isn't quite distinct enough to form a separate thread....have any of you guys plagiarized the Hell out of a wooden plank pattern because the colors weren't right and/or you wanted to mash up different features from different peoples' sets? I'm mid-plagiarizing right now and I'm just gonna write down the original designers so that, in the rare event someone asks me about my janky bootleg paths, I can say "I based these after these two different designers"

The dark ones are from Kanda Em and I can't find the light ones anymore but when I go to erase them it says "Are you sure you want to delete Risa* 's design?". The ones in the middle are me copying

Making it so that custom path designs can't be accidentally scuffed away when you press 'Y' to pick up a nearby item would be good.
Does that still happen if you overlay on top of a path tile? That sucks

I wish they allowed us to put non custom paths on the beach, because I wanted to add deck flooring, but it won’t let me so I made my own. It would be nice if they added it.

Not sure. I downloaded some log stepping stones that look great on grass but the edges clip if placed on a single width path tile, so I have to place them onto the grass.

Some way of making them erasable only in island editor mode would be useful.

I just wish we could reverse curve the corners and that different connecting path edges were more seamless with each other

hard to explain the former, but you know the part that erases when curving a corner? imagine instead, the part being erased is the part that stays, and the rest is erased

I mainly just want this for stuff like inner corner curving

I don't like the paths.

When I was done with mine, I felt like I was plot resetting.
Like I'd just put down some random ugly patterns to cover the tiles.

In NL, I had natural dirt paths.
I loved that worn in look. The winding paths.

NH paths look anything but natural.

If there was a way to at least, feather the edges or something, it might be an improvement.

Yeah, single-width ultra windy paths would look so cute. The paths we got are so square, and blocky

I wish that we had the ability to form dirt patches with the path maker that wasn't a path. Like in previous games where the dirt patches looked natural with the grass. I am super glad animal tracks is gone though. Gave me anxiety up the wazoo

Well, I'd recommend you not to say plagiarizing, and that you're actually referencing.

Plagiarizing carries a real bad connotation. You're taking two designers and referencing their designs to create your own. That's acceptable and normal.

To answer your thread, the soundless custom design paths aren't great but I wouldn't know how else they'd be able to assign the sound to the paths?

Like I can only think of a tag system, but then we have people who want a cookie design path and then what? It's too hard.

I feel like we should HAVE to have island editor enabled for that to happen.

Same with the fences, I always accidentally pluck a fence when I try to pick something up ): really discourages me to build certain things around them

  • custom sounds on customs paths (wood, stone, etc)
  • like someone above said, feathering the path edges to make them look natural would be nice
  • change colour of the existing paths (I'd like to try the terracotta path in light grey or deep red for example)
  • change grass type (triangle, square, circle)
  • mowed lawn
  • fences automatically conform to the edge of the path, not the centre of the tile. So you don't have that awkward strip of grass on the inner side of the fence because it's placed exactly on the divide.
  • flower overlay textures like these ones someone made for the Sims

Either that or have the option to 'lock' a fence/pattern in place after you place it, so maybe after locking it you would need to press y and another button together in order to pick it up.
Also related: I want a popup menu that says "pluck flower? yes/no."

Yeah, if you could scrub grass off a path the same way you can scrub a path off grass... that would be so great.

I want Nintendo to add in more path options, tbh. I want paths with little flowers on them and different pastel colors.
As much as I love the creativity of many of the custom design and path creators, the smoothening that occurs with each design makes them look kinda meh to me.

I just want more official paths. And maybe more options than just smoothing one edge.
