How can I tan when it's not summer any more?

I've seen people keep their dark skin long into December - how can I do this?

I tried wading in the beach water for about an hour, but that failed.

You can tan until September 16th in your town.

After that date, you can go to the island and play two tours or so and them leave since you've tanned for the day

Tanning season doesn't end until September 16th. I gained a level of tan yesterday and I didn't even go to the island I just idled in my village lol

I think its about an hour and half or two each day. Adding each day the darker the tan you get. But you have to be in motion for it to count.
If you just want to leave your 3DS alone, put on the wetsuit and swim in the ocean until then. The game thinks you are in motion then when you are not.

Its pretty easy to get the tan these days at this time of date. I am pretty overtanned at the moment, and I didn't even think I was getting over an hour and a half of playing outside each day....

If you wear the umbrella it protects you from tanning.

Really? A guide told me it was 1 and a half to 2 hours. This would explain a lot lol.

I third (third?) that! I generally want my AC characters to look like me, but it's annoying that I have to waste my battery life having my charcter stand out in the sun everyday... :s

I just waded in the island water for 15 minutes and my character still hasn't tanned. She only had a wetsuit on - no accessories. What am I doing wrong? ;~; I tanned from 8:40 a.m. to 8:55 a.m.
