How about NOT 100% original?

I don't try and keep my villagers original usually. I like doing favours for them, and if that means their house ends up full of creepy crawlies, so be it!

I have a few exceptions though, like Ankha - i adopted her not entirely original but the interior of her house is so cool and in keeping with the Egyptian theme that I try to keep it that way :)

I have no idea why, but I kind of like them to remain close to original, because to me their houses are also kind of "them". I know their houses may be kind of random, but some of them really reflect the villagers I think. I don't find a few small differences in furniture, but I prefer original houses. I do like to change their outfits though.

back when i first started playing, i didn't really pay attention to what went into my villagers' houses. huge mistake. apollo's house looks like absolute trash now. i love him too much to really mind though <3

now, i don't keep them absolutely 100% original, but i do make sure to pay attention to what goes into their houses and i try not to give them clothes that don't fit them.

when i adopt a villager, i do prefer that he or she is 100% original so that there won't be any weird of unfitting things about the villager.

I don't care if my villagers end up being unoriginal (I like to steal their furniture anyway XD). But I do prefer to buy original villagers. I have a thing about my stuff being "new".

I don't really care about having villagers original, and its kinda fun to find stuff for them that still works with their home themes/designs.

Plus I mean even if they drop in some bad item, I could generally always just buy it from them when they invite me over.

Though that said I do clog Re-Tail with max price flowers so they can't sell anything. Just because I don't mind changing their things around doesn't mean I want them to sell everything off until their house is just an empty room.

I have this song stuck in my head it goes like *forced wait period*. It's the town tune of X.

I had a friend named Y from X they were a real Z.

I do not much care either. When I visit my villagers house I will try and buy anything insanely ugly from them to keep there house looking half decent.

I don't like them changing their furniture, but I can't stop them from changing clothes, and I do change catchphrases occasionally.

However, the one thing I ALWAYS refuse are bugs and fish. They put that garbage in their HOUSE and it looks horrible. I adopted a villager not knowing their house is full of fish and I was quite mad, especially because it's a really sweet villager too. Just...ugh. I think if you plan on trading/adopting out villagers, don't trash their homes with bugs/fish. That's all I ask.

When I first started playing I was all about catching bugs and stuff. But then my villagers houses got so ugly with cages, partial fossils, mismatched furniture...

Now I just try to make their houses as pretty as possible. I wish it was easier to swap out their furniture! I'm still trying to undo the mess I made :(

Some I keep original, as for others...

I still need to find something for the back corner...

I do NOT give bugs or fish.

At first I wanted to keep a villager original if I wanted to sell them, but it's such a pain to revert their houses and clothes back to their original state. Nowadays I just try to give some special (refurbished, rare, or not for sale) items to make them feel more special and if they don't really want their old stuff again. It happened with Beau who was itching to get rid of his hammock: He sold it on Re-Tail, gave it back to him, and kept on bugging me to buy his hammock for 1,200-something Bells. So I ended up giving him a Mush Bed instead and the rest of my excessive Mush furniture. Genji always begged me to catch him a cricket, so I gave him one and it turned out that a cricket displaying in his house fits better than a cicada because of the unique and traditional-looking cricket cage. It's so dang frustrating when I try to keep Ankha and Chadder as original as possible, then they changed their clothes into Pro-Designs displayed at the Able Sisters and I didn't even had their original clothes to revert the mess they made. I guess the villagers still have their own free will and we can't control them completely.

I just do what the villagers tell me and go with the flow. If they want my shirt - take it, etc. I like to grow with my villagers. :)

I only try to keep them original if I'm planning to sell them. Otherwise, I really enjoy decorating my villagers houses. It makes them feel unique and more "mine" if that makes any sense. That being said I am super careful about what goes in Maple's house and I'm never going to get rid of her. I absolutely love her place the way it is. I can never say no to her so when she asks for fish and bugs I try to make sure their nice ones. If she asks for a river fish I'll find her a gold fish. If she wants furniture I'll get her something to go on her wall so that it won't mess up the stuff on the floor. It makes me really happy when I get a hold of wall-hangings that will look good because it makes me so happy to give her a present. Otherwise, I think keeping villagers original is a waste of my time and energy. Being able to give them lots of presents makes me happy!

Eek, is this actually an issue?

I can't really see the point in caring about keeping a villager original, or wanting to buy one as an "original"... you're just going to change them when they get into your town anyway, right? And isn't it boring if you don't?

... I give all my villagers fish and bugs because I like doing what they ask...

I plan to trade a villager who hasn't quite moved in yet... I wonder if I should be keeping him original... Would he sell for more that way, or should I not even bother... Marshal is supposed to be really popular, so I'd still get a good price for him anyway, right...? ... I didn't even know people cared about this stuff, ack.

For my dreamies, I want them to be as original as possible. I guess I wanted to be the one who shower them with gifts, and it's good to see how the villagers change their houses based on the gifts I gave them.

I don't really mind about their houses being 100% when I buy or adopt them and I didn't really care about their furniture, but I might start customizing them so there's something new for me to do in the game. I usually decline if they ask for bugs or fish unless I like their containers :3

Have never tried to keep a villager original, sounds quite stressful.
I don't like them filling their houses with bugs/fish but hard to stop as they often ask for what is your pocket.

They move the bugs/fish out if you send them furniture (especially if you pick what they like, Liquefy details their likes & dislikes in his faq on gamefaqs).

FaebelleDoll: Marshall - popular as players want his sloppy furniture, so check what he has so you can tell a potential buyer.

I prefer to buy them original so that I can decorate their house the way I want to, instead of spending weeks undoing what a previous owner did, but if it's a hard to find villager or a giveaway I don't mind taking an unoriginal if it's one of my dreamies. It doesn't matter as much to me, but I get why it matters to other people.
