Okay... so if you are someone who can't stand to alter their villagers in any way (and I know there are a lot of you out there)... this thread might make you a little uncomfortable ;)

I am someone who has never really paid attention to my villagers original clothes/houses etc... I love playing with them, sending them gifts and running errands for them, catching fish and bugs for them etc.

But there seems to be a HUGE emphasis on keeping villagers 100% original. I'm not saying one way is right or wrong... each to their own.

But is there anyone else out there that really enjoys picking out new clothes or furniture for their villagers... It seems to be my latest hobby within game... Dressing up my villagers in new clothes, or if they ask for replacement furniture, actually finding something that fits the theme of their home, or even redecorating them in a different way?

Am I going to get lynched for even suggesting this? hahaha! I joke... I joke...

But yeah, if anyone else does this... what kind of things do you do?

it's not much as keeping them 100% original, but i prefer to buy them original. that way i can alter them in ways i find acceptable. i don't care about shirts because its SO easy to change that in the long run, but getting a villager's house to change and get rid of all their ugly bugs is hard. and sometimes you buy a villager and their entire house is almost empty? like? i bought tiffany from someone on here and they said only her shirt changed, and her entire house was missing the majority of it's furniture. i was mad.

but like.. who wants to pay 200tbt for a t1 villager who has a house full of nothing but fish and bugs? i sure as hell don't.

i never give my villagers fish or bugs unless they look cute put into furniture form. which is very rarely. haha.

I definitely don't try to keep my villagers original at all. I love doing favours for them, particularly ones for bug-catching and fishing, so of course their houses will be full of bugs and fish.

I don't actually try to redecorate their houses, though. I just let them be. If Rodeo wants his house to only have a sleek couch, three fish tanks, a lovely lamp and a pill bug, I'm honestly fine with that.

I don't mind what their houses look like at all - if anything, I'm going to be the one getting lynched.

If Im gonna pay TBT for it then I would expect it to be original. When I get it in my town? I'll do what I want with the villager, but I'm not gonna pay for a villager that has just been completely ruined with random stuff in their room.

So, it looks like things are shifting to the topic of buying villagers.

I don't care if a villager is original or not when I buy them - I'm just going to mess up their house anyway. However, I'd rather not be charged "original" price for a non-original villager, or lied to about originality.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I feel like the insides of villager houses don't really matter much. I'm not spending much (any) time in them. Besides, I trust my villagers with their own decorating choices.

I never cared about keeping villagers original. If there's a villager I know people will want when moving time comes, I try to keep them as original as I can. I get why people prefer original villagers but I don't mind when they're not.

Keeping them 100 % original is really only for selling purposes, I'm sure those buyers have thoughtout plans for them.

To me, keeping a villager original just means that they never really lived in your town, they were just kinda 'stored' there. Which is fine, but if a villager is living in your town, they should live. Communicate with others, try on new clothes, trade furniture, ask you for new phrases... I mean that's kinda the fun of having villagers. Being able to change them, making them 'your own'.

If I'm buying, I would rather them be original.

As far as the villagers I have, I don't keep them 100% original, but I like to give them customized furniture that fits with the majority of their furniture. Like I give Colton regal furniture in royal blue, or give Stitches kiddie furniture in the fruit colors, Peanut lovely furniture in pink and white, Hamlet striped furniture with green stripes, etc...
I also catch them whatever bugs or fish they want, because they want them, and I want them to be happy :)

I don't care if they're original or not. If i'm desperately looking for that villager and they just have a single chair in their house, I'll take them. lol

I do keep my villagers in my cycle town original.

The consensus seems to be that if you plan to buy/sell a villager, keeping him or her original is best. And I understand that, nobody wants someone else's used goods (so to speak).
I think it's weird though when people insist on keeping the villagers they want to stay in their town 100% original. That's just boring, you miss out on a huge part of the game. I don't care much for their houses, I barely visit them anyway, I just love buying them clothes and changing their greetings and catchphrases to something cute~

I wouldn't want to buy a villager whose house just contains fish. xP

I don't care about 100% originality in the sense where I would literally turn down a villager I really want over it. The majority of the villagers I have purchased that were not 100% original were just about untouched with maybe their shirt altered which is an easy fix.

That said, if I have a choice to get them 100% original, I would.

See... so many people responding that they wouldn't buy a "used" villager... I guess I just don't understand the importance of it... particularly if you don't care about keeping them original once they are in your town.

I guess if I want a villager in my town, I want them for them... not their stuff... I could give a fig what they bring with them... a house full of sea bass if they want... it's not like I *have* to visit them :/

I know I didn't expect many people to agree... but I had hoped that *some* people might... *sigh*

yeah, I don't get it either. even when buying. but I guess I especially don't because I don't like villagers that sell for a whole lot. but even if I had to give up some virtual currency to have an unoriginal Clay or Tex in my town, whatever. I'd do it. /shrug
but that's me, and other people are free to feel the way they want to.

I'm keeping all my favorite villagers, and completely ignoring the rest xD So for the villagers I like and am keeping, I do them favors all the time, catch them whatever they want, and find them nice furniture. Any of the ones I let go stay original because I only talk to them if they ping me :3

When looking for villagers, I actually like it when they're not 100% original, because then I find the price is a lot cheaper and generally less people will be interested.

some I don't mind if they change but others I prefer to keep original.... like Zucker makes no sense if he has a different shirt and I don't like him missing the sushi conveyor things! I think he may be my only one... although Vic and Sterling looks best in the armor shirts... Sterling has on a flame shirt now and its ok

I like seeing their houses get all messed up, lol. Should really change the "someone from anytown" designs though as, from memory, the only decent one is the one with the bird that Hopper looks really fat wearing.

Idk really, I want the villager not their home lol. Also all of mine are p much unoriginal because i time travel a lot.

Meh, keeping them original is easy. I don't mind if I adopt them original or not, though. When I'm finished with my player homes, I'll start decorating the villager homes. o3o
