Holiday greetings

I was watching Fox News channel and they had a question of the hour. The question was...

"Right or Wrong: Do you think stores should be able to say 'Merry Christmas' or should they stick to 'Happy Holidays'."

I thought they should stick to Happy Holidays, but one guy had the nerve to say that store employees should say Merry Christmas(This isn't that part that bothers me, he's entitled to his own opinion) but what really pisses me off is that he said, " This is America, get with it." I was thinking this is guy is the dumbest person I've ever seen. People came here so they could celebrate there own holidays, not so they could take up ours.

I was just curious; what do you think?

Me being Jewish and celebrating Hanukah (spelling?) I'm glad when people say Happy Holidays or Winter break or something of that sort. But it just kind of disappoints me if there's a person/teacher who says something like "Have a fun Christmas Break." I'm really not that offended, it's just that I would prefer people saying Happy Holidays so I can relate.

i don't care that much about saying Merry Christmas, it's just that I prefer Happy Holidays because it's not offensive to any religion I can currently think of. It just ticks me off because he basically said Take up catholic or leave.

If you're talking about presents and santa, say Christmas. If you're talking about the whole break, call it the holidays. Is it really "fair" to forget every holiday in favor of not putting one above another? Are we really that stupid? If someone says Happy Hanukkah to me, I'm not going to go ape crap on them because I'm Christian. I'd assume they do the same to me.

Lets not give into political correctness (since being overly cautious would be incorrect.), say whatever holiday you celebrate. Let the world know your religion.

I frankly don't really care. I tell people "Happy Hanukkah" when it's Hanukkah, but when they tell me "Merry Christmas", I say "Merry Christmas to you too". I don't give a darn for political correctness.

If I did, I'd call firemen "firepeople" instead, and other preposterous stuff. What is our world coming to...?

The only think that bothers me about this is how people make too big of a deal about something pointless. Who cares if someone said Merry Christmas. Who cares if someone said Happy Hanukkah. Who cares if someone said Happy Holidays. People who care should try to stop. =)

I don't care, I just say Merry Christmas.
Besides, people should acknowlege the fact that they are being polite. Its just like saying "Happy Birthday".

Same here. But happy holidays usually works in general, but I don't make a big deal about it

I think it's *OMGABADWORDGOESHERE!!!* that people can't say Merry Christmas, but I usually say whatever goes with who I'm talking to. My school is mostly Christian, so I rarely have to say "Happy Holidays", but one of my best friends is Atheist. (Spelling?)

But we do call our band/chorus concert the Christmas concert, call the break Christmas break, etc.

While I'm a Christian and have no problem with "Merry Christmas", Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings are both fine with me.

The real greeting should be "Have a RamaHanaKwanzMas!"

I really don't care... I don't like it when people say Merry Christmas in the first place unless it really IS Christmas.... people start saying the like Dec. 1st xD

But this is a pet peeve of my Grandmas actually, she doesn't realize how rude it is, but if someone says "Happy Holidays" to her, she stares at them for 2 seconds with all seriousness, and says "Merry Christmas to you too"

If someone says happy holidays to me, I do the same as I would if someone said Merry Christmas, I'd say you too or nod, it's easier when you don't worry about being politically correct.
