Well Here is the thing, both US and Canadian systems have problems. Wait times can be worse in Canada, but I think that is most likely because of the price difference. Health care costs more here in the US, if it was cheaper more people could get it, which would lead to longer waiting times. The way I see it, this argument was formed by people who could care less about those who can't afford it.

Canada got ranked at 30 out of 191 nations while the USA was ranked 37 for heath care systems, but at the same time overall health in canada was ranked 35th while the US came in at 72nd. I see a decent point in favor of a canadian like system right there.
