Have you ever had stitches?

I got my first set of stitches about two months ago. I was doing the dishes and a very sharp knife slipped and nicked my thumb. I sat at home putting pressure on it, asking myself how do you know when you need stitches? About half an hour of non-stop bleeding, I decided I should go to the emergency medi-clinic. I was in and out (thankfully), and ended up with four stitches in my thumb.

I ruined my streak of 24 years without stitches!!

How did you get your first stitches?

Oh man...ouch :S glad you were okay though!

The only stitches I've had were the kind that dissolve on their own, when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I've gotten pretty lucky in that respect!

I've had multiple chest tubes as well as surgery for my lung so I've had my fair share of stitches

I've never gotten stitched but I know several occurrences where I could have used them. I would have likely opted for butterfly tape though. I remember getting bit by my rat straight in a vein on my thumb and it was POURING blood, it was a small wound but it bled for a good long while. I'm glad I never got stitches because my mom had stitches several times after surgeries and I remember they used these "melting" stitches that you can trim the top parts off but the inside parts will dissolve in your skin... and it was so gross you could feel the "knot" of the stitch under her skin. =[ She'd also had staples and they gave her the tool to remove them and she made me help and it was so heinous oh my lord...

Ive had stitches three times on my face, twice on my arm, and once on my leg. the one on my leg was the lamest, i was riding a ten-speed, standing up on the pedals, and one came off completely and the pedal spoke gashed my leg when i crashed. then i had to walk home carrying my bike and bleeding everwheres.

I broke my arm on my 9th birthday 6 years ago, and needed surgery and now I have like a 2 inch long stitch running across my arm

It's odd considering how accident prone I am though.

i haven't had stitches, but i know a few times where i probably would have needed them. didn't tell anyone though and i just put a bunch of pressure and tape over it and it healed after a while. got a pretty ugly scar tho but yyeah if i had gotten stitches the scar would probably just be a tiny bit less noticeable

I had a tumor removed from my leg when I was 14 so I had a few stitches then.

I’ve had about two stitches on my lip. There were dissolvable and disappeared in literally a day or two. I had a cold sore and somehow it got infected, and the surgeon chopped it off and I was left with two stitches. I probably could’ve gone without if it was any other location, but this was right on the part of my lip that moves when speaking and it was more of a caution thing. I was 10 when this happened. If I’m being honest, stitches freak me out and I hope I never need them again. The dissolvable ones are okay I guess.
