Have you ever gotten villagers you didn't know were popular?

The closest I have to a popular villager is Drago but even then I never see him mentioned
I don't really care about how popular villagers are, and tbh I'd rather not have popular ones since a lot of people have them and I want to give the misfits some love!

Never gotten Zucker in New Leaf, and he was one of my starter villagers for New Horizons! I had to kick out my original Zucker to make space for Ribbot, but eventually got another Zucker in the long run!

I totally agree! Right now I have Marina, Julian, Zucker and Kabuki as "popular villagers", but not just because they are popular. I love having underrated villagers on my island. Don't really want an island with only the top10-20. The underrated villagers feel more refreshing because you don't see them so much like Raymond or Marshal.

When I first played New Leaf I got Chief and Diana. I had no idea they were popular, but I kept Chief as he grew on me. I also got Marshall at one point, but I wasn't overly keen on him.

I got really lucky for my first island. I ended up getting Audie from an island who I thought was a ok character for my third villager until I found out she was extremely popular. I also got Roald as my first campsite villager (not by Nook, by random) before realizing he has a big following on Twitter.

One of my first 5 was Sherb. I had no idea he was new, I thought maybe I just hadn't seen him before! He's a real cutie, but I let him go after a while

In NH, not really. I didn't realize that Phoebe was arguably the most well-liked uchi villager (besides maybe Cherry), but that's really it. In NL, I had quite a few. Beau, Bam, and Tia were all starters for me and I had no idea how popular they were for years. I was very happy to see that my favorite was also consistently near the top of the tier list when I first discovered them in like 2018ish.

At this point I'm pretty much aware of who's popular, but back in NL, I got Ankha without knowing she was a popular villager. And she's still in my town to this day! (well... unless she randomly moved out while I've been playing NH...)
