Have you ever gotten villagers you didn't know were popular?

I got Julian very soon after I started playing NL. I was younger then and didn't use forums, so I basically let him move because I was fully unaware of his worth. Wouldn't be until around 2015 or so when I began lurking on places like Gamefaqs and here I actually realized how popular he was.

Can't say that I have, because I've been aware of the tier lists existing for years and don't care about them. I've had tier 1s in my games, but I've also had villagers from across all of the other tiers as well. I seek out the ones I like intentionally because I liked their designs, with no concern for whether they were considered popular and in high demand or not.

In my city folk town I got Bob as one of my starters. In New Horizons on my 1st island (on my switch lite) I have Chrissy (found her via Mystery Island Tour), but on my 2nd island (on the Switch) I got Raymond as my first camper.

Since this is my first AC game, I went in without knowing anything about popularity. Except for Groucho and Tabby, I chose my villagers based on images before finding them. I did guess that Lucky was popular, although I expected him to be a little more common on players' islands than he actually is. The only other somewhat popular villager I have is Cherry and of her I did not know beforehand.

I wasn't really aware of tier lists at the time I played New Leaf. Only when I joined online AC communities that I learned several of my residents are popular. I had Apollo, Kid Cat, and Goldie on my original NL town, then when I reset I had Ankha and Punchy.

I like very few so called popular villagers.

I know what makes a good design for me, and I stick with those villagers.
They are number one, to me.

Pretty much Raymond, when I got him, I didn't know he was that popular that time.

My first camper was Marshal, and I didn't know he was popular until a while after I got him. Same for Beau. So far, the only popular villager I knew before I got him was Zucker.

I just had a Merengue move in about a week ago. I didn't know something so ugly could be so popular! Can't wait until the 15 days cool down are over and I can start moving another villager out/in. After that, she'll hopefully be the first to go!

Well, I've gotten Whitney, Poppy, Marina, and Julian in the early days when I was playing NL and I wasn't aware of the tier list back then.

I saw sherb on a mystery island not knowing he was kinda popular and didn’t find out till like a month after, I also had Goldie who’s kinda popular too

In City Folk, Pekoe was one of my starting villagers. In New Leaf, I got Stitches as one of my starting villagers.

I was into amiibo collecting for a while, though I only ended up buying about 15 cards. I ended up with 2 of marshal’s card. I thought he was kinda cute so I put him in my NL town via Amiibo. The rest is history. yes I did sell the 2nd card

We end up feeding squirrels on our back porch while trying to feed birds. They will just sit there staring at us or climb up the side of our house and look in when we they are out of food. When I was searching islands for villagers I came across Marshal and thought he was adorable. When I looked up his personality I thought smug was just too perfect and had to have him. I never heard of him before so I had no idea he was popular, let alone that he would soon become my favorite...lol

i didn't get any "popular" villagers when i was playing CF. all pretty run of the mill villagers whom i still loved dearly lol. i remember being distraught when del left lmao.

by the time i was playing NL i was pretty in tune with what villagers were generally liked.

it is really fun to watch my friends who are new to AC develop affinities to and relationships with villagers outside of the online AC community opinions. my partner LOVES peggy who i would never go for but i've grown to love visiting lol. i imagine he would be a little disheartened seeing how most folks would hate most of his villagers.

I got Julian in New Leaf before I knew he was popular. Now my husband has him!

I guess June and Hopkins are the closest? I’m pretty well versed in animal crossing popularity from the beginning so idk.

I got Audie as one of my first 3 initial move in villagers. I knew she was new, but just because there's a new NH villager doesn't mean they will be popular. Take Cyd for example. Turns out she is.

i wouldn’t say marshal was “rare” in new leaf as he was in like, every town

but honestly i didn’t know about popular villagers til i got here so.... yeah i never know who is popular or not

I had Rosie in New Leaf. Someone visited and asked if they could have her. I told them no, because I don't like giving my villagers away.
