When I first got the game, I had my mind set on catching all of the bugs and fish within a year. Of course that didn't happen, because I got lazy and gave up at catching a few of the bugs. I fell behind in the end, so I never finished it.
It's been exactly the same like that for the whole Animal Crossing series. Maybe I'll have better luck with the next one.
I'm well on my way I'm pretty obsessive with it. However, I don't TT and just recently got the game. I'm 80% done with bugs, as I've caught nearly everything I can in June/July. I got really lucky with the tarantula and the scorpion and have them both. It's a lot of fun to watch them fight in the museum.
Fishing I'm quite good and and truly enjoy, and am only missing the giant snakehead and the coelacanth out of the ones available to me so far, sadly fishing will take a full year as they're better distributed across seasons than bugs.
The one I've been avoiding and feel I'll never complete is the deep sea diving. I find it nearly impossible and extremely frustrating.

Also, I'm not particularly sure if anyone would be interested, but I made an excel document one afternoon of the month, time, location and special conditions for each fish/bug/deep sea creature. It has columns for caught and donated as well. I like being organized like that. I highlight in red what can be caught that month so I know what I need to catch still. I had noticed when catching bugs and fish on the islands that I forgot to actually donate some of my catches, hence the two columns.
I've honestly given up finishing those 2 catalogs. I'm just fine walking around and looking pretty! No need to wait for thunderstorms and summer nights...
I always seem to finish the bug one the quickest (odd enough that the firefly was the last bug I needed xD) Everyone always seems to have trouble finding scorpions and tarantulas, but I encounter them all the time Dx) I have also finished the diving encyclopedia. Now I all I need are two more fish: the stringfish and blowfish >.<
It'll probably take me a few years to complete it if I don't reset before then. I don't have the patience to try and catch the really rare fish or bugs so I end up putting it off until they're out of season and tell myself I'll do it next year.
All 3 towns mayors completed their collection.
Player 2 and 3 finished their fishing collection.
Town 3 is in winter and the mayor caught her last two bugs. The dung beetle took awhile but she got it.
She than jumped on the train and went to my harvest town bug off. She got the golden net and returned to town. So you don't have to wait till next summer for the golden net. You do have to wait for the golden fishing rod.
I was obsessed with completing the museum so yes, I've completed it, even time traveling lightly to accomplish it. I also cut down all trees to get the tarantula and scorpion. That was crazy...
Right now I don't want to because I don't see the point.
Do the golden net and fishing rod do anything? I'm pretty sure they're just not as dull to look at.
