My data on a physical copy corrupted, it wasn't my main town thank god... BUT it was my 2nd town which i do trades with and had ALL my bells from these trades. I used the 2nd town because i didn't want a void villager from the wifi pools when i still only had 9 villagers in my main one. I was in the process of saving and i put my ds on my bed and I got off my bed, when i climbed out, i guess it moved the comforter/blanket and my ds fell to the ground. The cartridge popped out and i tried loading my game and BAM.. CORRUPTED!

However, my main town is a digital copy and I plot resetted like crazy so theres more than 600+ hours in there and never once corrupted.

You did?! :/
That post was actually the first post I saw on TBT. I was still on ACC at the time, and saw the whole thing. I actually knew the person that was so called "scammer". I had sold her stuff before with no problems. Then saw that post. The lie was that the supposed scammer wasn't scamming. She was told to hold items for the guy, then the guy didn't want to come to grab his stuff. I guess he saw a better opportunity here. I only found out about it later when the person being accused posted proof that she asked multiple times for him to come back to grab his stuff. I felt sorry for the guy at first as well. People will do anything these days >.<

I also rechecked the guy's proof photos and it does show her asking for him to come back and grab his stuff and him refusing, I guess never noticed that either >.< just like everyone else.

/lays on floor
I think we're talking about the same person, so nothing of value was lost because I just gave her a rococo set and 100k. But I distinctly remember the screenshots saying "I can't come back" and stuff.
OH WELL I'M REALLY GULLIBLE
Though I have gained some knowledge by being on here a little longer. I've grown more suspicious .v.

I know that turning it off too early is a surefire way to get it corrupted.
But... I've never understood how people do it, because I always wait until it goes back to the start screen because I've always thought you had to wait for the little train to stop loading... >__>;;;

Mostly not paying attention cause my bus was coming lol
Lesson learned I guess, the only downside is that I have to get that stupid permit again and that I lost Rolf, Molly and Papi.

Not corrupted but when I tried to make my sister an account I lost mine. I didn't realize it was like trying to steal a second copy.

Oh noo I'm sorry ;A; I'm just starting a cycling town so maybe I'll get a Rolf or a Molly in! And Papi to you if I don't keep him ;v; -strokes- I'll be resetting it twice or so so there's always a chance! I honestly do not touch it until it goes back to the title screen because I still don't trust turning it off when the little train is loading. >>;

I have had several accidents like dropping and the cartridge popping out, pushing on the cartridge and it popping out, turn off the game several times by accident. I always plot set and reset if something goes wrong in the game, that I can't fix. I am grateful that nothing has happened yet.

same! and i've had mine since june 9th.

That's okay lol Thank you for the offer but I'm not asking for anything, it was just an accident.
I don't want to seem like I'm asking for sympathy, it's very kind of you to offer though.

I own both a digital and a physical - digital since November and physical since Feb.
Neither have corrupted on me yet and I hope they never will.
I think there is a SMALL chance that a file might corrupt even if you are doing everything right (possibly due to a defective SD card or game cartridge). For example, (and I know that this is not AC related), my brand new MacBook Pro had a hard disk failure just 2 weeks after I bought it from the store. It was brand new and never underwent any physical trauma. Just stopped working out of the blue which proves to show that technology CAN fail us at times.

However, I've noticed that in some of these threads (i.e., my game data corrupted), the people are extremely pushy about getting their stuff back immediately (like - Oh, I need golden tools, millions of bells, so and so villagers, etc. Why is NO ONE giving them to me right away?). This seems a bit fishy to me.

Have a digital copy, since July 20th, never corrupted. I have played over 1100 - 1200 hours or something.... Yeah I know I am addicted.
Not to long ago my SD was acting strange, saying no SD was in, SD can't be read, along with awhile I was playing the game it said I removed my SD card but clearly didn't. But I dropped my 3DS on the floor at that time the game said that, explains why. But as soon as went back to the home menu on my 3DS, it could read the SD card again....wha? I gave my 3DS a clean (it has a hard case on it, so dust and dirt easily get in it over time) and works fine now. The SD is a high quality 16GB, worth 100 dollars.

My game got corrupted and it was my fault. I dropped it on my hard wood floor.

I'm really surprised at the number of people who frequently drop their 3DS or turn it off to soon. Might be because I'm poor and had to save up for mine, but I treat it accordingly because I can't afford to break it. And I don't think it's that hard to wait 2-3 extra seconds before turning it off, definitely not worth the risk of losing weeks of game progress.

This... I treat my 3DS and my cell phone as if they're small children or something. I don't throw them around or slam them shut or whatever... I randomly drop my DS sometimes but it's usually on a soft surface and it's usually when the system is turned off. My sister throws her DS across the room all the time and one time it hit the wall and her game popped out but she didn't even care. o.O

Same, thats why I have bought cases and cases, and pouches for my 3DS to when I do randomly drop it. Heck even the SD is high quality, expensive, for this reason, I am overprotective. I care for my 3DS a lot, and waited long and hard to get it. Love it, and take it everywhere when I travel, with me. Haha.

My phone still doesnt have a single scratch.. i saved up for it and bought it so im so scared

The data corruption is actually REALLY rare. What you're witnessing isn't children losing their towns, it's children thinking "If I delete my crappy town and claim that my game turned corrupt, I bet tonnes of people will give me all sort of goodies!"

That's why I never give away furniture/money willy-nilly to random people.

I don't like the implication that if someone drops their items they don't care about it.
My IPod never had a scratch on it and neither does my tablet. I was gutted when my 3DS slid off the chair and now has a chip where it hit the fireplace, I also hate that it has a little scratch where my coat button rubbed on it, hence why it now lives in a foamy case. Every time I see the marks I'm gutted all over again.

Sometimes accidents genuinely happen, the only thing is if we learn from it and not keep letting the same accidents happen.

My data never corrupted and I'm kind of surprised, because I do all the things people do that get their data corrupted yet mine hasn't.
Even if it does corrupt, I won't mind it much because then I can get a new start and actually improve from my last town.

My data got corrupted on January 18th, 2014, around sometime after 1 am. I own a physical copy. Indeed, the cases are rare, but they do exist. Had it since release date.

I only took out the SD card a small amount of times for posting photos and QR codes, but that's about it. Sadly the 3DS fell once because I got careless. But it had a cover. Lost so many damn hours, it drove me nuts. :c

You made me feel more gullible than I already am. ]:

I've had my game since July 2013. Physical copy. Removed the cart, SD card countless times, No corruption.
