Has anyone taken items from or destroyed your town?

Yup. When I had a cycle town, some people would come charging out of the train station and start running full steam. Any flowers would be trampled on. People would also pick up things left on the ground too. Yeah, happened like every week.

If this doesn't include being scammed, then just once.
This happened on Gamefaqs (go figure).
1. This dude destroyed two pink roses while going off and snooping around. I kept telling him to stay with me, but he didn't and didn't even reply. At this point, I'm pissed. Right when I found him, he started to run back to me then destroyed not one but two. Usually I'd let it slide with an apology, but at that point I was burning up and didn't wanna snap. So I flipped the switch.

When I first started playing, I opened my gate for randoms and someone stole the only hybrid flower I had lol.

No, I allow only a handful of people to wander around my town. Only one of them has ever damaged it - one flower. They told me right away - no worries. I have had people charge in from the station, and I have no idea what they had planned. I cut the wifi and sent them away. Anyone else is welcome to come, but we trade at the station or travel around town together.

I did have a cycle town for a long time. It was nice to be able to let anyone in to shop or get signatures without worrying what they might do. But sadly I just can't be that trusting in my main town.

When I played AC:CF I was a member of a small CF LJ group. We all had each other's FC's and would often leave our gates open so others could come and visit. I opened my gates one day and then went to dinner with my husband (then boyfriend) and forgot about leaving my gates open. When I got back, I noticed I had left the Wii on and the game running. Every single one of my trees was cut down. I was really angry and posted in the group about what happened and it ended up causing a huge fallout amongst the members.

Well I once met a girl while visiting a trusted friend's town, I'd chatted with her for a while and she seemed nice enough, so before I left I added her on Animal Crossing. A few weeks went by, but I didn't hear anything from her so I'd forgotten about her by the time she visited. I'd opened the gate for somebody else that was visiting, and then she came in while the gate was open. I only had about 9 hybrids at the time, 2 or 3 blue pansies, a few pink tulips and some orange pansies, so I was a bit nervous that I might lose the few hybrids and have to start breeding all over again. Anyway, she went quiet for several minutes, I ran up to where I was growing the hybrids were and I could have sworn that one or two pansies were gone so I asked where she was, she just said "bye" so I flicked my switch off. I reopen the gates again and she comes back, I challenge her on her stealing the flowers, but she denies it so I give her the benefit of the doubt and let her stay, a few minutes later the flowers are gone again, and the moment I see they're gone the banner flashes across "looks like someone is leaving" so again I flick my switch off.

I open the gates again for the third time, and amazingly she has the nerve to turn up again. This time she stands by the station while I challenge her again, she doesn't deny it this time and just repeatedly says "im sorry :(". I have in the back of my mind that surely she won't try it again, after having been caught out twice, but to be on the safe side I follow her round at a distance and I see her picking up the flowers, so I shout at her again while she runs to the station, and I switch off...

I still have her on my "friend list", I have no idea what her Mii name is or whether she's actually on my 3DS friend list or just on my AC friend list since I added her through AC rather than registering her friend code. She hasn't visited since that incident though, and I'm much more wary about adding people I don't know now.

No, mainly because the characters who come to my town are from my 2nd town of Knothole on my 2nd 3DS. I have only had a couple of outsiders (hope that's an ok term to use) come to Oakleaf and they've been very good, thankfully.

Been fortunate enough to only have one instance where someone I let visit to buy some exteriors from Nook dug several holes throughout my town and stole the pair of blue roses I had been trying to breed. Could have been worse I suppose but losing those roses sucked.

No, that's just awful, awful behaviour.

I only let a few people visit, and I am always very cautious. I hate to be that way, but it's better (imo) to be safe than sorry.

I am so grateful to those trusting people who do open their gates often and don't micromanage their visitors, but I could never be like that.

Nope. The farthest I've let people in my town is the train station where all my trades happen. I honestly don't trust no one.

Stole my golden axe and my beautiful furniture (sloppy tv,pics etc).I have a suspicion of who it is but does not want to sue them.

I only do trades. I rarely open my town and play with other people just for this very reason! Whenever I do or have trades, I watch the person the whole time. I haven't had any issues so far so thank goodness!

Even of GameFAQs, I've had people come over and drop off items/pay for items and they've been good. I guess I've just been lucky. Thank goodness!

I've had this happen to me before, it was when I was first starting off and I finally got a perfect town, a few black hybrids and bells to my name. I let someone in to trade, we hit it off really well, she seemed like a nice person since we traded before and she seemed to be trustworthy since she had 100% rating and such. She asked to go shopping so I said sure and I went to chop down some trees to make room for my p. cherry orchard, but what I didn't realize was that she had finished shopping and went straight to my garden area and stole 3 of my black hybrids, 2 of my purple roses, and 1 of my pink tulips. I was done by that time chopping trees so I went to get the perfect cherries and saplings I left close to my 2 Jacobs ladders near the train station and that's when I saw her pick up one and asked what she was doing. She dropped it immediately and said that she didn't mean to and that she was trying to pick the weed next to it, so I just said okay. Right after that, I picked up the saplings and when I was out of viewing range she apparently picked it up again and suddenly said she needed to go. I told her okay and bye. When I went back, I saw that one of the Jacobs was missing, but it was too late, the message was already telling me that she was leaving. I didn't know about the wifi switch at the time, nor the fact that I could end a session and such so I was in a pretty horrible state by the end of that trade. I left her a message but she never came back onto the site.

I also had another incident when I was about to play with two of my friends from my university. Everyone was still a little busy at the time, one friend was taking a shower after soccer practice and the other was just about to get out of classes like me. I finished first though so I told them to just come to my town and we would do island tours, so I opened my gates totally forgetting to clear my friends list of previous trades. So when I was preparing a snack for myself, I just left the game in my room since I didnt figure anyone would come over yet. Low and behold someone apparently did and they stole a whole field of my black roses, and leaving tires, boots, and cans all over my town. I was not a happy, and so from then on, I always delete right after trade and never allow people pass my train station, unless I'm always with them, or flick the wifi switch if I think something is wrong.

Yeah, I had ice creams and a pack of throwing beans around my town tree and this guy whom I thought I could trust just came in and took my throwing beans and one of my ice creams whilst I was renovating my town. I passed by my town tree and noticed there was some stuff missing. Flicked the wifi button in .02 seconds after realising. He still had the guts to ask me to open my gates again.

The only time I remember is when I was letting folks over for mass cataloging and some guy took a wallpaper and left a chinese zodiac item on accident, then he wouldn't come back to swap them.
