Okay the story goes like this. I bought a new SD card for my daughters new pre-owned 2DS. We bought her the game and made a town and it worked ok to start with then before she even picked a spot for the house the game crashed. so I tried again on my DS to check the card and the same thing happened but this time just after if saved for the first time. so i tried putting my sd card back in my ds but because my game was not the last one saved i had to restart my town :( i was not a happy mole.

That's unfortunate what happened to you guys!

I haven't had any issues of your sort. I wonder what the previous owners of that SD card did to it...? Hacking maybe?

This hasn't happened to me (yet), and I'm hoping it never does, but I have read other users mention this problem happening to them. It sounds like the issue here is a result of a currupt SD card, so maybe the SD card you bought was already broken and sold to you as new, which is pretty common. Did you happen to buy it off Amazon, Ebay or Gamestop by any chance?

My favourite town Corona was on an sd card and I managed to lose it some how. So I cried, because I had lost Nana, and every villager I spent lots of tbt to get. But I then bought it so it’s now on my ds forever and I managed to get Nana again <3

Yeah, before the amiibo update that NL had back in 2016. One of my game cards wouldn't load properly and whenever my character went into a house of an animal resident, the game would freeze.
So I ended up buying a new game card.

I still have that one card and after the update, that card started working properly again..

I lost my house in a fire in October, so I lost both of the towns I had. I had so much progress done in both of them. One of them was pretty much 100% finished. I had a completed catalogue, finished museum, and nearly all of the badges including the golden ones. Yesterday I finally got another 3ds and another copy of the game. So I have been restarting. But it kind of sucks because all I can think about is my old games. But I can’t get them back, so all I can do is move forward with my new town and try to make it as amazing as possible. :)

thankfully it hasn't happened to me before- but hearing it happen to others has made me scared of it before.
only time i've lost towns is if i reset my 3ds (because of my digital copies) or all the times i've upgraded my 3ds. save files don't go with the game even if you transfer data ): at least it didn't for me

Did all of your save files disappear when doing a system transfer, or just ACNL? I ask because I did a system transfer, and while I didn't have a digital copy of ACNL, all of my digital game files transferred fine. I did the transfer via PC option (copy data from one micro SD card to another, then move the card at the end of the transfer). I don't know if you're likely to upgrade your 3DS again at this point, but losing your ACNL save doesn't sound like something that's supposed to happen as part of the process.

As for me, I haven't lost ACNL data yet, though I've had issues with other games before on older systems.

Just in case you don’t know....there are ways of getting a town back. Have to have a working dream code, though.

I can, in fact, recall ONE time where I did HAVE to restart.

It was because I play the digital version of New Leaf, and I tranferred from a regular 3DS, to my dad's 3DS XL he passed on to me for the newer one. This was back in May or June of 2015. I still use it to this day. ;ppp

In all my years of playing I’ve never had a corrupted town before. Never ran into a hacker who did silly business in my town either since I’m very careful about who I let in, although I don’t think hackers are directly related to town corruption. Hopefully it’ll stay that way at least for the next month or so while I’m still playing it daily and waiting for ACNH haha :’D There was one point though, when I was very close to buying a new game because there was a weird bug in my cartridge version that just would not resolve itself. Basically whenever I would open a closet/storage system and close it there was a big chance my game would freeze and boot me out. It was so bad to the point that I had to save before opening any kind of closet and it gave me a lot of anxiety about playing the town. Thankfully, the issue finally resolved itself after the WA update. I still play that cartridge to this day and there’s been no issue.

it happened to me, but i was able to restore my town through certain methods that are against the rules to discuss in this forum

Yes :-( Sad times, man. I'm sure lots of people's hearts have been broken by this. The time you invest in your town and villagers is precious! But sometimes a fresh start is nice... Even when you don't really want one.

i had to restart once because my game somehow got corrupted; but it wasn’t that big of a deal since my town was fairly new
