Harry Potter

I never learned about Harry Potter. It eluded my scope of interests.

my family also called it evil witchcraft :c same with D&D and pokemon

I was close to getting the new video game (hogwarts legacy)? but it seemed it might be confusing to someone who knows nothing about the franchise

You are welcome to ask me anything! I am a huge Hp fan

I am a fan of Harry Potter. I have the 2020 version of Lego Hogwarts and its expansions plus two sets from the most recent version of the castle and a couple of other sets from previous years. My most recent purchase was the Aunt Marge’s Visit Privet Dr set and I find it hilarious how they designed the inflate Marge figure. My Hogwarts House is Hufflepuff and its characteristics actually describe me very well. Everyone wants to be in Gryffindor which I feel like it sort of makes it seem less significant to be one of that’s the House everyone wants to be in. I mean the other Houses have good qualities to them as well.

Yeah. When I attended this private Christian school, Harry Potter had just come out my second year there and a family friend bought the first book as a gift for me. Then I was told that the book was “evil” and I’d be sinning if I even opened it and I was afraid to even touch the book for two months. Then the family friend heard about how I was now afraid of the book because of what I was told and she told me that what the school told me was ridiculous and that God wasn’t going to punish me for reading a fictional book. That school seriously had this fear of magic and future predictions even if it was just figuring out what a predictable person would do next.

Hi everyone! Just a small reminder that because this is a discussion thread, we need to follow Post Quality guidelines! Thank you 💙

Post Quality
In order to keep forum discussions meaningful and substantive, posts are expected to have a certain level of quality. Posts and threads made in The Basement are generally an exception to most post quality rules due to the nature of the board. The following types of content fall under post quality violation and may be removed or moved to The Basement at a moderator's discretion alongside a warning or suspension:
  • Poor-quality replies that add little or nothing to further a thread's discussion.
  • Low-content replies such as "lol", "this," or an emoji accompanied by no other text. Instead, use a reaction or contribute to the discussion by explaining your opinion in more detail.

I saw some Harry Potter themed scented candles at Walmart yesterday and a couple of them smelled awful in my opinion. The Hufflepuff House candle probably was the best smelling due to it have a strong vanilla sugar cookie type scent to it.

I don't shop at Walmart but thanks for the heads up

2021 me is LIVING for this thread lol. My island is also called Hogwarts! I'm a Slytherin and my Patronus is a lion! Ironic, I know...

I haven't read any of the books in quite some time. I think the last one I picked up was Goblet of Fire in 2023, so I am well due for a reread 😅

I only very vaguely have an understanding of the J.K Rowling controversy, but what makes her a bad person?
She doesn’t think trans people are actually people. I was called “stupid” by someone before who also thought the same thing as J.K. I don’t support people who are transphobic because I think it’s a person’s choice to be whatever or whoever they believe that they should be.

Ah thank you for explaining, I don't like transphobic people myself either. Too bad the author of such a legendary (at least in my opinion, since I've loved Harry Potter since my pre-teen era.) book series has such harmful and insensitive ideologies.

I’ll continue to like the HP series because they were written and published long before the controversy. I support the series and not the author.

Me too, it's like a case of separating the art from the artist, I guess.
Exactly. None of the books or movies say anything transphobic and were written ten years before JK went off of the deep end. Some people might disagree with me on continuing to like HP but I’ve invested too much time and money on some merchandise and I really like the Lego Harry Potter theme and spent literally hundreds of dollars trying to create and expand my version of Hogwarts Castle and buying sets to get certain characters for said Castle. Right now the Professors I’m missing are Quirrell, Remus Lupin, Mad Eye Moody, Hagrid, and Trelawney. Key figures I could try to create myself if I had the right torsos and heads and hair are Cho Chang, Cedric Diggory, Fred and George Weasley, Hannah Abbot, Pansy Parkinton, Ernie MacMillian, and a few of the Qudditch players.
