Have any of you guys played Happy Home Designer? I got it back when it came out, but didn't quite get to the end because I just got worn out from designing homes with no tangible reward. It was fun enough, but didn't come close to the mainline games. Then Happy Home Paradise comes out and it's... almost the same thing. I mean it is significantly better with so many more options like the partition walls, but really it's the same game, just upgraded. I do like that I actually get stuff for designing the houses now and the new furniture is actually pretty great, but I think it's slightly disappointing it's so similar.

I was just wondering what people who have played HHD now think of HHP? Do you like it or is it too similar for you?

i do find it similar but i found the original incredibly relaxing to play, which im finding the exact same with this one. I know it can seem a bit repetitive the more you do it , but thats why i like it so much as i dont necessarily have to think about what im doing and can just enjoy designing some homes. I do like the inclusion of all the new stuff now and the way it links to new horizons, i think it was much smarter making it a dlc rather than a seperate game this time.

Weren't a big fan of HHD, I did play it quite a bit, but it were kind of meh.
HHP fixed my problems with it, and linked it to a mainline game, I think it's great, I'm on my 11th vacation home right now, I'm taking my time on each one, and hopefully honing my interior, and exterior design skills, and gaining a bunch of stuff for my island at the same time.

Well I played Happy Home Designer before Happy Home Paradise came out so let me just say it is a massive improvement from the old one. Let me explain:

So with Happy Home Designer its basically the same where you have to make a lot of homes, but its that you're in a small town and you have to make a lot of homes and of course build facilities. However the only difference is that unlike Happy Home Paradise the game was not linked to New Leaf. Which was a shock to me, because the game looks and feels like I'm playing New Leaf, but its just me designing homes. I never really felt rewarded. It didn't have much currency and anything that made you wanna do it. I got through the game and even though I liked the design aspect it just felt shallow also the Design tool you use from the 3DS was pretty dated and didn't offer much.

With Happy Home Paradise it fixes a lot of the issues HHD had where you actually get rewarded for making so many client homes. You get new currency and the biggest change was its linked to New Horizons so you can get exclusive items and bring it back to your island. So it gives you more a reason to keep making homes to earn more Poki (the new Currency). So it plays pretty much identical to HHD but the biggest change is that you're on a Island Resort and you can so much more with the homes than you can in HHD. You change the look of the Home, add Divider Walls, and with New Horizons new decorative tool it was so much more better organize stuff and put them where they want to go. It felt like such a great improvement.

In Conclusion Happy Home Paradise is a massive improvement over Happy Home Designer, it fixes a lot of the issues people had with it and it feels a lot more easy and smooth to get used to. The fact that its linked with a mainline Animal Crossing game is a huge plus for it.

I didn't play HHD, but I never would have bought it as a stand-alone game. HHP is a blast as a side-game attached to New Horizons.

As a fan of HHD, I'm having a ton of fun with Happy Home Paradise... but I'm also wondering how long it'll be before I go back to play HHD again, because they are very similar, and HHP has a lot of improvements. ^^; Plus, the tie-in to New Horizons and the Poki furniture do add a little extra incentive to play that HHD doesn't have. I still really like the original HHD, of course, but it's pretty much just relaxing designing for the sake of relaxing designing, whereas HHP is relaxing designing for the sake of getting more cool items/abilities for my ACNH island, ahaha. It's like a win versus a win-win.

The differences in furniture options, design capability, and at least some of the home requests are enough that I'll probably complete both games eventually, though. In terms of concept, however, I do think it's definitely stronger as a DLC than a separate game.

I got very bored of HHD very fast. I’m not bored of HHP because it’s set up to be a break from my daily island life. I can fly out and go to work on a house and then come back to my island. I also like being able to bring back exclusive items, much like you could buy exclusive items from Grams on the mini game island in New Leaf. Because of this, I am enjoying it.

i loved hhd and now also love hhp a lot. sure its similiar but you have so many new choices and the visual upgrade AND its linked to the main game. i reeeeally love it! 🥺

I've played both, and love both. There are some aspects I like better in HHD, but overall, HHP is better. The best part of HHP is that it's connected to the main game. So I get do it with my character and go back and forth between work and my town.

I didn't play HHD but I did buy HHP. Honestly, if HHP was a standalone game I wouldn't really care for it, much like I didn't care enough about HHD to bother picking it up, but I do think HHP is integrated well into the main game that it was worth getting it. Like there is an incentive to play HHP for me because it does unlock different abilities in the main game, in addition to giving another way of getting some DIYs and furniture items, plus I do enjoy being able to give my villagers their own vacation homes, lol.

Played both and I definitely enjoy HHP better because as others said, although they’re similar in game mechanics, HHP offers a much more satisfying experience overall as a dlc rather than a standalone game. HHD was pretty fun at first but I got bored quite fast because it’s very repetitive. HHP, as a dlc, was able to address this issue because the way it is tied to the main game gives me enough reason to wanna play and design more and more homes. The storyline and quests as well as the rewards in HHP just made playing it such a great experience and added so much value into my daily ACNH playtime. I’m taking it slowly but I’m eager to unlock everything as I design more and more and carry the skills over to my main game.

For me, personally the biggest difference between those too is integration / lack of integration with main game NL/NH. HHD was a separate game and whatever I may accomplish not reflecting my main island / town at all.
Now, having HHP I have my game bigger and HHP became one of my activities.
Despite the fact I had NL + HHD on my 3DS I haven't spent much time playing HHD - maybe I will try in the future, maybe not... but for now, I spend several hours in HHP (10 villagers and houses made already) and planning to continue.

It's only been a few days but I'm really happy with HHP so far! I think I'm in the minority of people who was way more obsessed with HHD than I ever was with ACNL, so HHP was already a dream come true for me. Even if it had just been HHD but in HD, I'd have been excited.

Didn't expect to absolutely love how well it's been integrated into the main game. One of the great features is how you can eventually access your own personal DIY and Nook's catalogue for items. It makes it feel less necessary to drag my feet and do a low-effort build for a villager/theme I'm not enthused about just because their theme would grant access to items I'd want to use in future.

I built tons of houses in HHD but burnt out pretty fast due to the lack of rewards and how unsatisfying the end game was once you completed all the facilities in the plaza. I'm thrilled that in HHP, once you get to that point it feels more like you're still just beginning; each facility actually has some kind of function that motivates you to return. Also love that in HHP you can assign specific villagers to work roles in the facilities (as opposed to HHD where you could do it temporarily, but they might swap out the next time you check again).

I find it similar but to be fair that’s what I was expecting and I don’t mind. I’m probably in the small boat of people that adored HHD so I know I’d love HHP as well. I’m not super far through the DLC yet, but I’m really enjoying it. I love that it’s dlc this time and I can flip between HHP and NH easy and quickly without needing to switch out the games.

Yes, they're pretty much the same, which for me is awesome because I really enjoyed HHD. I'm really enjoying HHP, too. The best part are all the new items which we'll eventually be able to use on our island and the roommate feature is interesting, too. I never expected them to add this dlc but so happy they did.

As many are saying, I find HHP similar, but it fixed my problems with HHD. Villagers is HHD felt hollow, you couldn’t befriend them and I didn’t like that. Now that it’s linked to your main game and you can even give vacation homes to your besties on your island it makes me happy.
Further, earning poki and being able to find a lot of new furniture when I’ve currently been burning bells in this update like crazy feels nice.
Another thing I hated in HHD was it broke the immersion of everything happened in real time day to day, I know why they did it, but I like that we have the choice to take things ‘vanilla’ with this and go one day at a time if we want.
Or of course you can TT to your heart’s content, but at least the shop stock changes daily as opposed to HHD’s only rewards really just being new skills you could spend play coins on.
IDK HHP seems like it’s the kind of game that doesn’t work well solo, but is the perfect DLC/ supporting game.
I thought that even when I saw the trailer announcement.

I ADORE HHP! I played the crap outta HHD and there are some distinct differences:
1. HHP has a storyline, and you actually get to know your coworkers better.
2. The tie-in with your main island makes it feel more real (through transferring items/skills, etc)
3. Villagers feel much more alive in HHP than they did in HHD, they are more interactive now
4. HHP facilities actually function instead of just looking the part, ex. the cafe sells food, you can get examined at the doctor's, etc. Everything feels much more real.
5. There's actual progression and growth to the island beyond unlocking facilities

I haven't completed HHP yet, but the one downside (so far) is that there seem to be less facilities. I really miss the office and music hall from HHD, I hope they'll be in HHP too!

I enjoyed HHD and I'm loving HHP. They're similar and the basic gameplay (decorating villager homes) is the same. I figured it would be but it's a gameplay I enjoy. I like HHP better, at least so far, because some of the things that tie it to your main game are really useful if you like decorating.
