Hacking the Game

it doesn't bother me. do whatever makes you happy. i find hacking fun but it's not something i would do straight away.

I don't have anything against hacking, so long as one doesn't use it to mess up others gameplay ofc. I wish I could hack my game myself! Seeing all the beautiful (hacked) towns on tumblr and what can be done with hacks makes me want to do the same, after a few years of vanilla gameplay it can get pretty boring having to wait to gather all the supplies etc to decorate your town how you want (imo). Not to mention the problem with villagers placing their houses wherever they wish.. >:I

oh ya i totes hacked my old town. it was super fun, i loooved having the ability to put trees in the river and pwps+houses on the beach!! i think the only case it ruins the game for me is if i 100% stuff like badges/fish/bugs (which i did with badges before i updated my ds so i couldn't hack it anymore, WHOOPS) since that doesn't leave me with a lot of stuff to complete. i can't hack anymore and i reset my town a bit ago since i wanted to start over with a new mayor but honestly besides the fact that i 100%'d my badges with hacks i don't regret any of it! and i certainly don't have anything against other people who hack unless they're going into other people's towns and messing up some poor kid's game. hacking for sure isn't for everyone but it's alright with me!

EDIT: to clarify I THINK HACKING ITEMS IN FOR OTHER PLAYERS IS FINE AS WELL and very sweet as long as people are transparent about it! i know some people feel dirty using hacked items and i don't feel the same but i totally get it

I never wanted to hack but I also never had the need too. I always played New Leaf from 2014 - 2021 without ever touching online just because all my friends were never into video games. I agree with what @RooftopsRevolution said about how hacking isnt like a moral thing because when they put it like that it made me feel bad. I think you should hack if you want but only in private or be very clear and transparent about it. I understand it if your doing some dream town but I still think hacking should only be used in extreme circumstances. But, some people still do it just to get infinite items, bells, and their villager houses. When I received a new 3DS and my 2nd town of Rainbow I was tempted to hack it as I had seen SO MANY videos when I was younger all about the Save editor and homebrew so I was going to but then I decided to still play originally as I feel more proud about towns where you put alot of effort through original means. I had to plot reset FOREVER to get all my villagers in Rainbow order and to move in to the correct spots. After literally every villager in every color had moved in exactly how I wanted Caroline just would not move in the red spot. I still dont know why so I had to alter EVERYONE AGAIN and finally it was good. So now all 4 of my towns are unhacked. But quick TLR is that hacking is fine and you should do it if it makes you happy but never force other who dont want to.

i think hacking is cool and that there is nothing wrong with it unless you are somehow ruining someone else's experience with the game. i would hack but i don't play new leaf anymore, im also scared of nintendo coming after me and banning me from online play or even worse, bricking my 2DS. hacking your town is fine, giving yourself bells and items are fine too.

I don't personally want to hack as I don't know how and I probably wouldn't even if I did but I also don't really care if others want to hack as it doesn't affect me or my enjoyment of the game. I did see exactly one hacker on the Island in New leaf but they just ran around showing off bugs and items you can't bring to the Island which made me semi uncomfortable because they also didn't speak and I didn't know much about hacking at the time so I just left. In other games though I do like secret exploits and oversights to get ahead but only in single player games. Hacking is a big reason I stay away from competitive online games

as long as it’s not being done to mess with someone else’s town or their stuff (without permission), i have no problem with hacking or those who do it. in fact, it’s actually something i’ve kinda been wanting to learn how to do myself, though i don’t know if i ever will (unless the dupe glitch counts lol). it’s fascinating, and i love what all you can do with it — putting stuff into the river and ocean, baskets of perfect fruit that never run out, etc. i actually had some of those bottomless baskets myself, and man were they definitely a perk of hacking lol.

also, it’s lowkey so jarring whenever old threads get bumped. like, wdym this is from 2018?
