Let's say you just got your dream villager from another town, whether you won them in an auction or they were given to you for free. Hazzah! Now you have one of your dream villagers moving in a couple days! Only problem is that the game is programmed to have the villagers place themselves where ever the heck they want and most of the time they put themselves in bad places. For example, your villager places themselves in front of the freakin' Town Hall. Or they put themselves somewhere you want to place a works project. Well there's a way around that!

Note: This may take a lot of time to do. Be very patient when you decide to follow this guide. Sometimes it only takes a few tries to place where I want my villager and sometimes it takes a couple hours. You have been warned.

Things you will need for this guide: First you must make sure you have an empty file. This trick will only work if you create a new character. Second, make sure you know when a villager will move in. If you already loaded a preexisting game and see a planted property placed somewhere for a villager to move into then this trick will not work. Third, make sure you have A LOT of patience.

Guide

1. The day when you know a villager will plot their property somewhere before they move in start a new game. DO NOT LOAD A PREEXISTING CHARACTER FILE. If you do then the trick will no longer work and your villager is stuck there until they move out. If you see their planted property in the main menu don't worry about it. It'll replace itself somewhere else as soon as you start your new game.
2. When you talk to Rover it doesn't matter what you put your name as or what you say to him. Get past that part as quickly as you can so you can get started.
3. As soon as you exit the train station look around for your new soon-to-be villager's planted property. If you like it then read step 4. If not then press your home button and close the game so it doesn't save. Repeat from step 1.
4. So you are happy with the place your villager is. Good! Now talk to Isabelle at the Town Hall and she will tell you to talk to Tom Nook so you can place your tent somewhere. It doesn't matter where. As soon as you place it somewhere then go talk to Isabelle again and she'll give you your ID registration. Now you are able to save and quit the game. Do exactly that then you are free to erase that game file. Now your villager will be in that spot the next day when they move in. Yay!
5. If you are noticing that the property is planting itself in the same areas repeatedly or if it's doing a pattern every time you start a new game then turn off your 3DS and turn it back on before restarting. The pattern should change. I find that usually the property places itself in 1-4 spots at a time. When I start seeing this pattern I restart my 3DS.

I hope this guide helps! Feel free to ask questions or concerns that you may have!

Good guide, but you might want to change the phrases "do not load a preexisting game" and almost other all uses of "game" in your post to say " character file" instead. Otherwise it looks like you're telling people to start a new game..which would mean deleting their current one and losing their town.

Thanks for this guide. Much appreciated :) Just got back into animal crossing and forgot how to do this

I'm pretty sure the restart the system is a myth. There's no proof explaining it other than the fact that it's happened to others. Step 4 can be condensed into just saying "complete the tutorial and follow all the steps given".

To be honest I dont think its a myth. When I used the guide I saw a pattern where the house kept moving but when I restarted the system the pattern changed. Either way it worked for me and maybe for others.

Noted. Thanks for telling me that.
