How do so many people have millions and billions of bells?
Wouldn't getting that many bells require you to do a lot of work?
It seems like you'd have to play almost everyday for hours.
I know catching island beetles helps you with bells but the most I was able to from selling beetles is up to 4mil yet I see people who have over 50 million bells and over 1 billion bells.
How are you able to get that many bells?

People sell tier 1 villagers. I sold Whitney for 25 mil, I have about 40 mil total right now.

I think a lot people sell BTB, hybrid flowers, bush starts, saplings, unorderables, and turnips to make a lot of their money. There's also selling perfect fruit in towns where they aren't native (especially stacked with a Premium bonus), and the lazy camper game.

It's a combination of a bunch of methods. Selling top tier villagers, turnips, trading btb's, selling rare furniture and hybrids, and farming island beetles/sharks.

I got really rich by hosting turnips sales for a week. I bought and sold abt 40m and made abt the same in tips. My goal was 100 m to get the safe. So when I reached that, I really insisted on no more tips. But, I have found the less you ask for, many people here give more. A generous group!

selling popular villagers, selling tbt for bells, beetle hunting, turnips, selling items/hybrids/bushes as everyone else said.
maybe those people you know have duped bells or use powersave which is faster.

Those people who do not use sites like this for selling things have most likely duped to get their bells

I used to go beetle/shark hunting at night and sell them at Re-Tail and/or exploit lazy camping villagers, but then I used the turnip selling method. Pretty simple, every Sunday morning before 12PM, a brown boar called Joan will be walking around your town selling turnips. These range from 90-110 Bells, and I recommend buying <100 Bells. Then, you can check your Re-Tail for the rest of the following week. Ask for the Turnip Prices, and Reese will tell you. The prices change twice a day, once in the morning (before 12PM) and in the afternoon-evening. Then, if I get a large spike, say, at around 400-600+ Bells, I sell. Or I can check the forums to see who has a high selling price and sell my turnips over there. I buy a whole lockerful, filing up 1800 spaces, which gives me ~8-12mil each week.

And for those people with a billion Bells, most likely to be hacked in.

I've gotten mine (about 80 mil) by trading perfect fruit with others, using the stalk market, beetle/shark hunting and selling unorderables that I don't want here on TBT. It has taken some time though.

I know a lot of people who are rich but they know nothing about site.

Not everyone sells TBT as a source of money, do they?

Most people sell villagers, sell stuff like fruits and furniture, beetle hunt (but this takes a lot of patience), trade, etc.

Beetle hunting was my go to for a while. But I mainly use the stalk market for bells nowadays. I've got a sibling who also has animal crossing, and if either of us have turnip prices around the 500 or over mark, we buy and sell like mad.

Stalk market can literally net you 12m in a half hour if you do it optimally.

I used the Re-Tail board to trade with others and make profit off of that. There'll be quite a few people who are desperate for something and are willing to cough up the money for it. If you've got a large catalog I suggest opening up a shop.
