Franklin isn't in my town, help

Hi! I was excited to play the turkey day event today, but when I opened the game, the event wasn't happening. Franklin isn't in my plaza, and isabelle did not mention the event in the announcements, despite mentioning it last week. My game is on the latest update, so is my switch, I'm connected to the internet, and the date and time are what they should be. I'm really at a loss here, and I started this account just a couple of minutes ago hoping someone could help me figure this out

yes, I saw people on reddit not be able to get the event until they linked a nintendo account.
