There are food decoration items, but nothing you can craft nor eat outside of cupcakes, pumpkins, and fruit. The closest we have is the sparkling cider. You can hold, but can't consume.
I like the idea of Brewster getting an expansion and selling food. I don't think it should go full food options, but like cookies, cakes, pastries, things you'd find in a cafe, and then the menu changes with the seasons, so cakes, ice cream for summer, and things like soup, broth, bread rolls etc for winter
So from what I have done during my gameplay, you get them from Redd's raffle on Harv's island when you have Redd open up a permanent shop there. It's 500 bells per ticket but it gives you a different food item you can actually hold like your villagers! you can buy a raffle ticket as many times as you want (Not like how you can only buy one piece of artwork a day from him). Very convenient! I will keep looking for other ways to get these same equipable food/drink items.

you can make/cook food, once you get enough progress in the game. the last major update added cooking, this thread is actually before that update came out.
