Flower breeding help?

I have my black tulips fenced off by themselves so they don't interact or interfere with other colors while I try to get more, but apparently two blacks bred and made a purple?? does anyone have a good flower breeding source I can look at? I didn't know this was possible.

If you got the black tulips from a rare hybrid island, then it's possible to get purples from it.
