Fanmade cards?

Yes!

AmiiboCrafts was the seller.
Awesome work, and not just Sanrio! ^_^

I’m torn when it comes to fanmade amiibo cards. The price can’t be beat when compared to what people are charging for popular and Welcome Amiibo/Sanrio/rare cards. However, not knowing the process behind how they’re made, I’m wary of them and there would always be the worry in the back of my mind that since they’re not official, if I scanned them in they might corrupt my save. I’m unsure whether I’ll ever actually purchase any because of that, and also because ideally I would only ever need to use the card once or maybe twice if someone moved out accidentally so it seems like a waste of money. Only time will tell for me though, I’m trying to complete my towns by acquiring all the remaining dream villagers I hadn’t gotten yet and there are barely any cycling threads these days.

I haven't made any myself(don't have the time, or the interest in doing it), and I won't go into detail on how they're made, but for sure it's the exact same data that's on the official merchandise. I scanned my Viche card into Splatoon and Mario Odyssey, and it's recognized as a Marie amiibo.

They make them with an Android app.

I could do it, but couldn't be bothered.

Wow I had no idea "fan made" cards were a thing. I didn't realise how bad the online market has gotten for buying AC cards.. I bought the Sanrio set last year for a reasonable price but I think that's all I've actually spent money on outside of card packs and a box of WA card packs.

Is the Post Office here not viable for swapping for cards now? It was so active last year..

I bought a fanmade Sanrio set because they were never available where I live. I've scanned each one and they all work perfectly. 20 bucks is way better than 100+. Not sure if I'll end up buying the WA cards, I'm trying to trade for them but it's hard to get those ones.

hi guys! sorry for being such a noob, i've literally never touched my 3ds for moooonths and im really new to the whole welcome amiibo update..

may i ask, how do these work? where do you get "authentic cards" and are they rare thats why theyre so expensive?

Ok, soo this might get long, but I hope it explains everything...
The WA update totally redid the way villagers move in and out of your town. Now, as long as you have their amiibo card, you can move any villager in/out of your town whenever you want. It even bypasses the 16 villager cycle! Of course you're not required to have any amiibo cards for villagers to come/go, but if you don't have them, the way villagers move in and out of your town still applies like it did before the update, which a lot of people don't like because it means you could be waiting forever for your dreamie to show up, or get stuck with a villager you really don't like for a long time.
Unfortunately, because Nintendo seems to hate money, authentic card packs are super hard to come by offline. It's really hard to find them in stores, so a lot of people try to get them online...except it's really hard to find them online too, since Nintendo seems to have stopped printing them. And with ToysR'Us out of business(they were one of the only online retailers you could still find them at for a reasonable price) it's only gotten worse.
TBH, none of the cards are 'rare'. All cards have an equal chance of showing up, provided you find an authentic pack of six. It's just that more popular villagers (Marshal, Diana, Bob, Meringue, etc) are majorly expensive to buy as a single card, and most people don't wanna take the chance of buying pack after pack, just to find the few villagers they want, so they give in to scalpers, which keeps the prices high. A card by itself should go for like $1, but places like ebay and amazon have single cards going for like tens or even hundreds of dollars.
So some people figured out how the cards work and decided to make and sell their own, fan-made cards. They may look and feel a bit different than official amiibo cards, but they work just like the real thing, and are loads cheaper. A lot of people are buying and using fan made cards now because of all that.

Hope that explains everything. :)

I honestly could care less if a card is authentic or not. I bought a few fanmade Sanrio cards from Etsy in the past and they work perfectly fine. It's a wonderful alternative, and much cheaper than the originals too :D

Do they have it for the regular villagers?

I just bought a $14,00 Genji card from Amazon.. It better be worth it. ;___;

You can get any card made up, with the proper tag.

I've seen them on Etsy. ^_^

oooh :o thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!! :D

wow those people who figured out how the cards work are amazing HAHAH i'd buy but even the fanmade ones cost too much for my allowance to handle eheh

I see fanmade cards as a necessary evil - tho evil is too strong a word.
Nintendo did not print enough, series 1-5 came as 3 cards in a pack in the UK, I got a lot of duplicates despite buying a lot of packets.
Expensive and frustrating. I've accepted not having full sets of any of the cards apart from the San Rio.

Would I buy cards via etsy - yes I would if I could find some made in the UK.
I haven't, they are all US made - maybe I haven't looked hard enough. The problem with the US ones I've seen on etsy is the postage - over ?10 per card on top of the price of the card, plus having to deal with the exchange rate & the charges my credit card or paypal would levy - untenable.

I have bought a few favourites/original cards on ebay. Some were as much as ?5 a card, all too silly for words.
I wish Nintendo had just made more and not put us into this have & have not situation.

You're welcome! :) A few of the fanmade cards have increased their prices, but not a lot. They're still a ton cheaper than the authentic cards though.

I didn't see the fanmade cards before I purchased Chrissy/Francine/Ruby's genuine amiibo cards, I wish I had lol. Filbert wasn't as expensive as those girls. Then again, I used Amazon because I didn't really trust eBay (I just bought a collector's book off there like a month ago, pleasant exchange)

These are learning experiences, haha. I bought the rest of my dreamie villager cards off of etsy, because they're expensive outside of it. Popular villagers are popular for a reason! I plot-reset for Marshal and Fuchsia since their personality type has only about 20 or so. I'll be getting their cards only if they move out.

I was not having good luck with amiibo card packs so I went and got individuals. The only dreamie I got from packs was Vladimir, though I did use some that I liked until I had all of my favorites.

I'm the opposite lol I'll trust ebay over amazon. Ebay and paypal back their products and the money you spend. Refunds are ALWAYS guaranteed where as with Amazon it's up to the seller. I think it's just best to exercise caution and read store reviews. Though for a while Amazon did have the packs of cards for 5 bucks. I bought 5 of each series available, but now their prices went back up to about 14 bucks a pack and with toys r us kicking the bucket it's just a pain in the butt

May be slightly off-topic but because some people here have noted how hard it is to still find genuine cards I thought I?d share this in case it helps :

What I did, and do, is look for sales of genuine card packs (which of course are basically non-existent now), and then I buy a full box at a time for around $110AUS (depending on currency conversion) from a local gaming/merch store. Friends of mine own it so I know I can always arrange another order when I'm ready to, which I know I?m very fortunate to be able to do.

For anyone still keen on buying a bunch of cards from any one series, I highly recommend checking if any (non-chain*) toy/gaming/merch stores you know of will order in a box for you. The cost of international postage for trades of cards really adds up, and when youve got a lot of cards you need, buying in bulk makes sense if you a) can afford it, and b) can find a store willing to do the order for you.

* chain stores aren?t typically allowed to order from suppliers directly, so unless the chain still has boxes of cards in stock, they probably won?t be able to help.

has anyone ever been banned for scanning bootleg amiibos? i read that people are getting bans for scanning unreleased amiibos (understandably), but i just ordered a pack of sanrio cards & definitely don't want to be banned

I don't think that's possible, since you're not using WIFI.
