I changed my 3DS language to German today mostly out of curiosity. I speak good German so I understand pretty much all of it. I was surprised at some of the differences though.

Firstly, the names of all the characters are different. Most interestingly to me, Lobo and Whitney are named 'Lupo' and 'Lupa' respectively, which is so adorable because they live right next to each other and now have matching names and omg cuteness overload! :D

Also the time is displayed in 24 hour time and all the signs on the stores change and I'm sure I'll discover more as I play today.

I'd recommend anyone that is learning another language give it a try from time to time. It is a good learning experience and actually really interesting as well :)

Yep! :)
I played WW in french (not because I was learning, because I am french) and when I got NL I started in french as well, it was just more natural to me.
I only switched to english to facilite comprehension and trades when I joined here, and now I actually like the english dialogs and villager names a lot more. In french the names are almost all diffeent and not as fun as the english ones... Most of them have unoriginal people name or basically the name of the animal they represent lol...
The tone of voice is also slightly different.

I also speak spanish fluently, maybe I should try playing in spanish someday, that could be fun!

Ooo, that sounds like fun; I'll have to try that soon. I can also speak fluent Spanish just not write it, though I find its easy enough to read.

Yeah, my Spanish is pretty good, so I've played in Spanish sometimes. Usually when I play in Spanish I keep all the letters that are sent to me lol.

I remember playing my WW in Italian when I started learning and it was really satisfying/enjoyable/good way to keep the language in my mind.

Tempted now to switch one of my games into French as I'm trying to learn that too but not sure if I know enough yet to go on with hmm.

I've always played in English, but now I am very tempted to switch to Spanish or French to help me review those languages c:

Yes. I put my game in French because I am learning it in school. ^_^

I'm definitely playing it in German when I get my 3DS back - I've been learning German as it's my boyfriend's native language, and since I'm going there this summer, I think this would be a great exercise to get into the language!

Well now I'm curious lolol, if I change it to another language will it affect my game in a negative way?

There's no negative effects at all. I changed it to German and then back with no problems :)

I used to play it in German, but then switched to English after joining TBT xD
I always found it sad that Lupo and Lupa didn't have matching names in other languages ;w; I thought it was really cute.

oooh. i should do this. ill probably try out the french version c: sounds fun!

Currently playing in French, but I was thinking about switching for English (and maybe German, fun way to prepare for exams he). I guess you only have to change language setting of 3DS to do so ? Didn't know if you had to re-start a new game for that.

Yep, you just need to change the 3DS language :)
