This probably dumb question is primarily for my friend, whose dreamie villager Chief suddenly went into boxes after tting one day forward, when he talked to every villager include him everyday and no one told him that he was moving/pinged him (he was outside each day) he just wants to know possible reason, thanks for helping! c: although he's very heartbroken now... and I think he just quit animal crossing...

im assuming its just because chief was supposed to ping to move the day before tting but your friend never got the ping/rumor about it for some reason

sometimes you have to search 4-5 times. Do a search then save and quite. do it again at least 4-5 times. you can't just do it once or twice because as you have seen it doesn't always happen on the first go. You have to keep at it through the day sometimes. and keep track of when pings will happen. They are random but do follow somewhat of a pattern. I get a ping(and I TT) about every 3-5 days so I know by day 3 I will have to check like all day and keep on that day by resetting the time for that day. not before 6 but like from 7 am and on. I had this just happen with Kid Cat. I saw him a LOT through out the day but he didn't ping until the 6th time I did a save and quite then reload.
I hope that helps some.
Really it does come down to doing a save and quite and reload and check a lot of times for some pings.

Thank you both for answering, helped my friend understand more~ c: Now I'm just holding Chief for him, and now I know what to do before someone tries to move out too ^^

ever since discovering >this< guide i've never had an accidental move out (not sure if you or your friend know about it) :) it's a lot more reliable than just hoping that a villager pings you (and in my experience it's pretty common for them not to)
