Does hiding fossils behind buildings still work?

This will come in handy whenever I get tired of digging up fossils. I still need some to make doorplates and I'm collecting some to display, but I might just get tired of digging them up eventually.

I don't believe so. The only reason why I'm doing it is because I have donated them all and I don't want to keep digging them anymore.
Today I had no fossils to dig up and it felt good not to worry about them
