Does anyone have multiple characters just so they can have more houses to put their stuff in?

I'm curious to see if this is a thing or not. I was thinking about putting a second character on my island so I have another house to put stuff in. If I did go that route, I'd probably use it to make a restaurant or something more interesting, as my current house is going for that "cute vacation home" vibe and I'd rather not ruin the vibe by putting a secret lab behind a bookshelf. Plus, I have so much furniture that I want to do something with, but I really can't because the rest of my house is mostly finished and it wouldn't look particularly good if placed outside. Is this something people do or is it really not worth the effort?

I have a second character my son uses. He doesn't play much so his house became my diy storage. Lol

I just made one today for storing non-orderable items and season diy materials I don't have a use for (right now) like easter eggs and sakura petals.

A lot of folks do this. They would use the 2nd/3rd or so houses for other roles such as Cafe/Diner/Bar/Arcade/Spa. The storage is an added bonus if you have the bells to continue expanding their houses.

Note that you can even use the other profiles to get more DIY recipes (Celeste), buy more from Redd (if he ever visits) and unlock the max of 5 per profile when nook shopping (Floor lights, simple panels, garden lights, etc.). You can even farm easier Nook Miles since the dailies will have 2x or more multiplier and are usually pretty easy. I'm sure there are more use cases but that's what I can think right now.

I'm planning to add a second character eventually because I need more pattern storage. I want to keep the house as small as possible and use it for some kind of store - a bookstore with a cafe or something like that. I just need to decide where to put it.

I have been thinking about creating a second character but ahhhh I wouldn't even know where to put that house ;-;
I've never done this before though, it seems a little weird but if I do this I would make a themed house, maybe a hotel or a bakery

Yes I have another character that my sister uses when she plays, but her house is also themed to be an indoor cafe. I use that storage for stuff I know I want to keep and not sell by accident. I plan to make another character too in the near future

I finally decided to make a second character last night. I placed the house on the beach for now and I think it'll look really cute as I keep going and decorate around it making it a little hidden home. I'm going to use it for diy storage for now, maybe turnip storage if I keep buying them.
Honestly though, I have enough bells to pay off the upgrades with my main character, but I'm going to pay it off slowly this time. I feel like I really rushed paying off my house and this gives me a chance to enjoy the game at a slower pace when I want.

i have 2 alt characters because i have a bunch of room ideas that wouldn’t all fit in one house aha

all characters share design storage, so you cant get anymore slots this way :(

I have my second character as storage but end game is part of my town build (witch's house), now she's my catalog manager lol

It's definitely more common than one would think. I personally don't have one.

Lots of pros: an extra DIY recipe everytime a villager crafts that you might be able to trade with,
more storage,
more rooms to furnish, etc

I got a second character to have more rooms to decorate and more storage, as well as have the extra message in a bottle etc. I find that I don't log in as them very much at all. I will probably only use them when Redd has multiple real items to buy (if I even remember to do that!)

lol this is tempting but i already hoard waaay too much. plus i don't want so many houses taking up space on my island, so it's a no for me!
