Does anyone else struggle to decorate?

I love all of the customization we have in this game. I get so many good ideas, but it seems like everytime I try to do something, I always end up hating it, especially when I end up seeing really beautiful islands. My island is a garbage dump compared to some people’s lol. So then I tear it down, get another idea, and repeat. I guess I will just have to keep working at it until I figure something out but I’m just curious if anyone else struggles with this.

i do. i’ve been decorating a lot lately and while i’m happy with some of it, i always compare it to other people’s designs and feel inferior in a way ;-;

Absolutely. I think, at least for me, it may have to do with a lack of inspirational material to drive my creative juices and island theme. So it's taking me days to come up with how I want to do like my entrance, the courtyard in front of RS, etc. Check out how it was looking a couple days ago like what's even going on here lol

It's hard when paths don't look natural as they did in NL, and nothing joins.

Also, don't feel pressured to terraform.

Sometimes less, is more!

It comes in spurts for me, but I wish there were more options sometimes because I don't wanna settle on decorations and it ends up making my island kinda plain.

Yes, I'm still struggling to figure out where the Ables Sisters should be(Its currently in Hotland) and just in general how to decorate each area. I'm trying to do this, one bite at a time through

I like what I did, but I still have to tear most of it down. Designing something that works with the amount of inclines and bridges Im given is tough for me. It would be less expensive if I mapped things out ahead of time, but I don’t. I’m about to tear down the incline that goes down to the secret beach because Redd doesn’t come enough to justify using one to get down there.

I noticed with my island I've torn down everything except benches streetlamps paths lined with flowers and fences.
I understand how to decorte with stuff from past games plus fences or pwp, public work projects.
Aside from that I keep going

It's all trial and error. I, myself, enjoy the ugly phase ^_^ Seeing the transformation is just what is the most fulfilling for me. As with anything artistic or creative I do, there is always the ugly phase in which I absolutely hate what it looks like, and then later, as inspiration comes in little bursts, ideas form and come to life, and suddenly, it isn't so ugly anymore. You have to trust in yourself! Trust that what appears to be ugly right now, will become something you love later. And the ugly phase is what will make the final product seem that much more impressive. Believe me. Those beautiful islands you see online? Those had an ugly phase as well. They just don't show that part. So please try not to judge your island and creativity too harshly. Just know that it is all part of the process ^_^ <3

I build something and don't like it, or build something and do. Or redo it a bit. Or redo it completely. Or do something else.

The things I thought I was going to do originally changed a lot. I just finished changing my paths a third time. First stone cause I liked the look, to dirt so flowers could grow, now brick because it is different. My black flower theme has been abandoned. The gym I made that sucked has been beautifully remodeled.

I have ideas for most of my island, but I lack the spatial intelligence to tell what needs to go where to make everything fit, and I just don't know where to start. Tried two island planners and I can't even get my basic island on them, let alone decorations. It's that bad.

I can work with trees, bushes, flowers and hedges but I struggle to place down furniture any bigger than 2x1.

I have an island where, upen reflection, it seems like the most "useful" places to put a bridge or incline doesn't match with what "looks the best / the way I want it to".

The result is bridges I've been ignoring and inclines I'm refusing to build until I can terraform.

I have plenty of bells to use on changing my layout, but it still isn't cheap and since I don't TT, I have a multi-day wait and I just don't want to put myself through it.

Unfortunately, this is also affecting my ability to decorate.
