Does anyone else let their villagers be random?

Everywhere I go I see people trying to control the villagers that move into their towns, and paying a heap load of bells to get their dream villagers, and then they're distraught when they've accidently time travelled too much or not played the game for a while only to find one of their dreamies has moved out!! And they put a lot of effort into making their villagers perfect etc.

But I wanted to know Is there anyone who actually just leaves their villagers be
I see the villager aspect of the game as more transient i.e it's always subject to change and the process of villagers moving in and out is never-ending in nature of the game, so I find it more appropriate to leave the villagers and the whole idea of having villagers you don't like and one's you do adds to the fun of the game because hating on your hated villagers is always fun, so is attempting to like all of them, and even more cool is when a villager moves in that you like and you pay them special attention make good friendships, say bye eventually but cherish the memories and see them sometimes in main street and keep their letters, the whole goodbye thing of your fave villagers is also fun

I do however like it when a person who's making a themed town tries to only get villagers that fit with the theme e.g. all penguins in a winter themed town :)

Although I have my dreamies, I actually have a ton of villagers that I like, so just in case a villager I like moves away, I always have a backup just in case. As much fun as hating on an ugly villager is, I'd rather have a village of villagers that I do like since they are so many of them.

I've always been half and half on this. I understand the allure of only having villagers you like in your town. But I understand the point you were making there too, how it's fun to have people come and go.

The problem I have isn't so much as who's in my town, but where they move. No, I don't plot reset until they move into super specific places on my map, but I also don't want them moving 1 space directly in front of the town hall or retail or my house either. Besides that, I don't care where they go. Because of this though, I have always done that new 2nd player trick whenever a new villager is arriving in town to make sure they aren't in an absolutely horrible location. If they did plot in a terrible spot, it would just bug me so much until they left.

Plenty of people do. :) I don't really have dreamies but I have villagers I really love and want in my town, but even among them, I still want to have two open spots for some time, so I can meet new villagers. The only trouble with that it can make some things more difficult if you want to decorate your town or have villagers you want to keep. The 10th villager to move in rarely pings, so if you have 9 villagers you love but hate your most recent move-in, it's more complicated to move anyone out. If you're trying to decorate your town, you need to plot reset to make sure they won't plot right in front of your door or on your fruit trees.

Letting all villagers come and go is a fun way to play, but I also don't blame people who don't, even people who have a full set of 10 permanent villagers.

I used to jump through all the hoops relating to dreamie acquisition and found myself playing primarly to ascertain they weren't moving out. It really suffocated the joy out of AC for me and I ended up stopping for many months.

I recently re-started my town and decided to relinquish control over my villagers. Now I let them come and go, plonk their homes anywhere on the map and try not to pull my hair out when they start displaying crap in their homes. My latest resident plonked her house right in front of a bridge, which vexed me at first, but I adjusted by altering my usual route and got over it.

But it's still tough for me to let certain villagers go. My last move out was Chief and when I went to say goodbye on his last day I felt an ache when he waved as I exited. Still, that's preferable to stressing out over the constant anticipation of a villager escaping without warning!

I have very few dreamies. In fact, only Bob and Kiki I'm not okay with moving, (Kyle won't be moving soon, though, I love him). I don't mind when they change/do things on their own. I try and let them move when I can, because I want to see as many of the animals as I can.

My 2 towns have always been "All are welcome". I don't have dreamies, but on Day 1 I decided who would be my best friend in each of my 2 towns (Gayle in LuvLilac & Puck in Jayhawk). If I can help it, Gayle & Puck will never move out.
I also have 4 characters in each of my towns (since Day 1) and don't plot reset, villagers move in wherever they want (I might not like where they plop their plot down at, but whatever). I just work my paths around them.

Most of my villagers are actually random and I like it that way n.n The only one I went out and got was Flurry because I just really loved the way she looked. But there are so many cute villagers that I couldn't choose just ten anyway so I keep it open ^w^

I have sort of dreamies (aka a list of villagers that I'd like to move in) But I let the ones in my town move out still so I can get new dreamies! I always wait around for giveaways too, I wouldn't pay money for a dreamie! It's only a game xD And really, the ones I'm most attached to are the ones that moved in randomly/ were in my town when I started (Molly, Tangy, Peewee) I love all my villagers but I like to give others the chance to have their dreamie at least one too! :)

I think everyone is entitled to having whoever they want in their town, and there are a lot of play styles as well. I have had countless villagers move in and out while I didn't get the ones I wanted, so that I would get to meet those as well. It just depends on what your play style is. Some villagers just end up meaning more to some people, whether they were starters in their first AC game or whatever the reason. I don't see what the problem is but I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion as well.

Also, I time travel all the time, been doing it for months and I haven't once had a villager move out without my consent. If someone did, then they just weren't careful enough, so that shouldn't really be a argument supporting the thought of having random villagers. It's all up to you on how you play.

If you're a control freak like I am, random villagers is out of the question. And instead of seeing some ugly villager's face everyday and dealing with their stupid house placement, I'd rather be having fun with villagers I actually like. I could be talking to Lily instead of wasting time hitting Freckles with a net.

Most of all I just don't want my town to be messed up by random villagers in random places.

I like to keep my villagers stable for awhile, but eventually I get bored and let some of them move. I do plot reset, but I have several areas I'm fine with, so it doesn't usually take long.

I have a few that I let come and go. And some I love for awhile and then let go.

I always wait around for giveaways too, I wouldn't pay money for a dreamie! It's only a game xD

Are you talking about this forum? Because I think it's against the rules here to sell villagers for real money, they can only be sold for in-game bells or TBT.

Personally, I like to keep most of my villagers random because it keeps the game fresh and interesting! On the other hand, I don't have any issues with people who will hunt for their dreamies because it's their game. If they wish to spend millions of bells for a villager, go for it.
I find I'm the same way for my town also. I like to keep it all nice and pretty but it doesn't have a ton of order, haha :)

The randomness of move ins and campers is part of what appeals to me. I find I tend to want to keep villagers around for a few months before letting them go. But having said that, Roald and Punchy are not going anywhere ever and I am still heartbroken about Merry leaving.

I like the randomness aspect; who's going to be in the campsite next, who might move in next, etc.

I have a few villagers right now that I don't want to let go of (Ankha, Bluebear, Marshal), but otherwise anyone who wants to move out of my town I'll allow. I'm sad to see Cherry go, but I'm also excited to see who's next. :)

Oh but I would plot reset, even though I'm not super fussy about it. Bob moved a bit in front of the campsite, and I was fine with that.

As long as a villager doesn't move on my perfect pear trees or my hybrids, I'm okay. I even built my house in front of the river because then no one could block my house. :P

There are a few villagers I'm very fond of, but I don't hunt for dreamies. I'm all right with anyone and everyone moving in, but I do plot-reset to keep my paths, forests, and gardens intact.

...I'm not sure I'll ever let Static leave, though.

my problem is mostly with random house placement than with random villagers. i wouldn't mind changing my villagers once in a while, but since that gives a chance of messing up hours and hours of landscaping + the time to get rid of them and re-landscape... no thanks ):
