Does anyone charge and play? (3DS)

oh, god.
>> looks at my 3ds and phone, charging for forever on 100%, that i've been using the whole time.
what am i doing with my life.
this explains so much.
forgive me lord for i have sinned.

I generally try to charge it while it's off if I think that it's low on power, although if I get the red light and I'm playing at the time, I'll stick the charger in and just continue playing as normal.

You'd think they'd give you a big warning about this if it were true. I've never heard of charging and playing being a problem. Even if your battery life was shortened, buying a new battery on eBay is only $5.

All the time, since 2006. All my DS survived every roadtrip before they need to be recharged, so idk about these rumors.

Charging while playing shrinks the battery life of your system indeed. It will never go below 3 hours of battery life if i remember correctly though. Which is enough for my needs since i use my 3DS XL at home most of the time.

I do this all the time and haven't gotten any problems with it. The battery is gonna wear out over time regardless due to normal usage and at that point, you probably already bought a new unit.

I got a N3DS back when it was released and I often charge while playing. And since I got the charging cradle with it too I can often just leave it in that for a long time. I have not noticed the battery life decreasing and I've had it for almost a year now.
I read around a bit when I got it and it doesn't seem like leaving it in is a problem with most batteries (I do the same with my phone and it works great).

Usually I leave my 3DS on while charging and it used to last many days by itself without leaving it on the charger. Now the batter gets zapped in two days, even while closed :/

I just charge it when I feel it needs to be charged.

I don't usually charge it whilst playing it because I don't often stay on my 3DS long enough for it to need charging, especially since I just stick it on charge whenever I'm not using it (since it stops charging when full anyway).

If it does need charging whilst playing though, I'll just stick the charger in and carry on playing. I'm not stopping playing because it needs to be charged.

That's pretty much what I'm doing.

There's a lot of lithium ion battery misconceptions in this thread...

Lithium ion batteries don't get damaged from you using it while you're charging it. These batteries are only made for x# of charges and they will start degrading over time. It depends on the particular battery you have too. I'm not even just talking about brand. You can have 2 batteries made at the same time by the same company and charged the same amount of times, but one will last longer than the other. They are not made to last forever, and they won't last forever.

So basically, the more you use your device and have to recharge it, the more you're damaging the battery. But even if it stops holding a charge, you can get a new battery and it'll be like new again.

I charge and play all the time, and my 3Ds is fine. I haven't noticed any changes either. If there is some, I don't notice.

I constantly charge and play. Got the 3DS as soon as it came out and I've always charged and played. The battery life has gone down a bit, but not by much. I can still play for several hours without needing to charge (3-4 hours, depending on brightness settings).

I also let it charge over night without playing it. That might help a bit. But I can always play on my two hour break in between classes without needing to charge.
