I was wondering because all my dogs chose to live near the cliff-side overlooking the beach. I got my last dog yesterday (Cookie) and when I first loaded the game and the title screen was on, I saw Butch walking around (his is the last house on the right) and right next to his house was a plot for Cookie. I thought, oh great, that's where I wanted to put my lighthouse (since the dogs didn't leave me many options) and a dock pattern for jumping off the cliff. Then, to my relief, when I started up, Cookie's plot wasn't next to Butch like it was at the title screen. Whew! But... she still chose to live on the cliff right near the left ramp. What gives? Do dogs just like the beach??

It's pretty congested on the south side of town - lots of "traffic jams", but the good thing is they left me lots of free space for decorating and building PWP's.

Do you think species plays a role on where a villager chooses to move in?

No they don't, you've just got some really interesting luck I suppose :) it's all random placement

Nope! I have had a few of the same species at once and they never lived too close too each other =3 But what luck! It looks like a nice little neighborhood! ^-^%

Mac lives along the cliffside overlooking the beach, but Daisy is backed-up against the river and Butch is living in the middle of town. I know Daisy could have moved in overlooking the cliff & beach but didn't. So I don't think a villager's species plays a roll as to where they choose to move in.

Nope.
All my villagers are random species and they moved in on the right side of my map. Except for apple, she's all alone against the waterfall

Hmmm... I thought it was too weird to be random. I'm not sure if it's good luck or bad - there are a lot of PWP's that look great on the cliff-side like the windmill, bonfire, outdoor chairs, hammock, picnic blanket, etc. and I don't have any room to build them there! It's amazing I have one spot in the right corner to build the lighthouse - Cookie almost ruined it for me!

Plus the houses are all zig-zaggy, so putting paths in front of them was a real challenge.

I've noticed my villagers tend to move into the "nicer" areas of my town
Like where many flowers, bushes, orchards, and PWPs are

:D Lucky you, I wish it was the same for me. My deer are butts, they like to plot their houses any where! Killing my flowers and trees are my villagers' specialty. <3

I think it's random, personally, but that's pretty interesting that all your villagers ended up in the same kind of area! Mine are completely scattered all over my town, haha.

I think your onto something! Erik is up the back wear all the pine trees are. Once I had shep and he was on the cliff too while birds and octipi lay along the river banks?

In my experience, I don't find plot location relative to species at all. I've done my fair share of TT-ing to reset plot locations for adopted dreamies, or just trying to reset and find a plot with a dreamie in it.

When I went reset for locations for dreamies, all the plots were in a few specific locations (no rocks and PWPs and stuff). Never has a villager only placed a plot in one location when I reset, which I think might prove that locations aren't species-locked ^^.

Wow, who is the odd one out in your signature?
Oh waits, nobody is...
All the houses are in a curve and your players are in a line, lol!
A lot of my villagers like the lower right area, so I guess once people started crowding there, others came to, that's what happened to me lol!

Not going to lie, I wish my house placement was neat and organized like that!! I didn't discover the plot reset trick until recently, but that's an interesting situation.

haha thats funny :3 daisy and butch live pretty close to each other and i didn't plot reset for them but cookie lives far away from them because she was a starter

Nah it's not the species. I have 4 cats, 3 deers and 2 wolves in my town. Skye lives almost the opposite of Chief. The cats are all scattered around but three decided to stick to one half of my town together (though there houses are quite far apart) Zell and Diana are inline with each other with Deirdre very close by c:

Nope I have all but one wolf(Fang) and they're spread out all over the place :p

Thats funny, my Chief and Skye live about opposite of each other o_o

No.I have a town full of ducks and a town full of frogs and their house placements are pretty random, particularly the ducks. However,Jambette and Lily, both normals, moved in right next to each other and in my other town where I have four koalas,Sidney just moved in right next to Melba and they are also a pair of normals from the same species.Eh...that's probably just a coincidence but if I ever got Deena would she move in next to Molly?
